YORGOS Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness, which features Emma Stone as the protagonist, left an indelible impact at Cannes Film Festival, courtesy its incredible stories about sex cults, and debauchery.

Such was the impact of Kinds of Kindness, that it earned a standing ovation that lasted for 4.5-minutes. The premiere saw the presence of the filmmaker and his cast – Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Jesse Plemons, Hong Chau and Joe Alwyn. The movie offers to the viewers three unique narratives that feature actors who embody taking on different roles throughout. According to reports, a few attendees decided to exit the theater because of its intense segment in the second half.

Emma Stone hit the red carpet wearing a burgundy sequin Louis Vuitton ensemble, which featured a plunging v-neck and double ruffle train. To complete the look, she wore matching burgundy satin sandals from Louis Vuitton.

Kinds of Kindness has undoubtedly been one of the most anticipated debuts at the festival which has been in news for showcasing the premieres of Furiosa, and Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis, which has been in the making for decades.

In Deadline review, Stephanie Bunbury referred to the film as “puzzling, brilliant and, in all honesty, not easy to like.” Screendaily too lauded the film for being “pleasure to watch” both visually, and technically.

The Hollywood Reporter called the movie as “an acquired taste, but at the very least it’s a movie that keeps you wondering where it’s going next.”

Lanthimos made Kinds of Kindness from a script he had co-written with Efthimis Filippou, who worked with the director on the screenplays for four previous films including 2015’s The Lobster and 2017’s The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

While attending a British Film Institute event in January, Lanthimos had told the viewers what they could expect from the film. “It’s three different stories, and we’re finishing the edit right now, and I still can’t tell you exactly what it is about,” he had said earlier.

Searchlight will release the film in the US on June 21.
