This release is terrific. The packaging seems minimal from the outside, but inside you get a double-sided insert with liner notes and a reproduction of the original black-and-white booklet. I read that with great interest (written by Tom Wilson). The contemporary notes are both engaging and informative! The audio quality is quite good, at least on my copy (after a wet cleaning before playing). This is just an amazing lineup playing a relatively diverse set of songs. Easily one of my favorite Tone Poet releases.- This series just keeps getting better. They’ve done it again. Tremendous depth and separation, sounds like the ensemble is here in the room with me. Killer.
Really excited for the Transition titles and this one does not disappoint. Got a nice flat copy, sounds wonderful, they even matched the generic blue back cover like the original, can’t wait for Doug Watkins next month!
Wonderful music. Superbly recorded. It’s a must have if you’re into hard bop ala Blakey and Jazz Messengers.
This early recording is without distortions, so feel free to turn up for best results. Pressing is immaculate. Beautiful single-pocket jacket.
