BAFTA fans were left totally ‘shocked’ when they heard Sarah Lancashire’s accent during her acceptance speech.
The Happy Valley star picked up the BAFTA TV award for Best Leading Actress at the ceremony tonight (12 May).
In her acceptance speech, Lancashire said winning the award was an 'honour'.

Thanking the 'formidable cast and crew', she paid tribute to creator Sally Wainwright, adding: "I shall forever be grateful to you for this opportunity."
But as fans praised her 'well deserved' win for playing Sergeant Catherine Cawood in the popular show, many were very distracted by hearing her real voice.
As viewers will know, Lancashire speaks with a thick Yorkshire accent in Happy Valley.

However, in real life, her voice couldn't be more different.
While she hails from Oldham, Lancashire, many felt her voice sounded 'posh'.
One user pointed out on X: "Every time I hear Sarah Lancashire's voice it throws me where is Catherine Cawood!??!!"
"Always forget Sarah Lancashire is actually posh…" another even said.

Someone else echoed: "Sarah Lancashire not speaking with that thick Yorkshire accent somehow feels wrong."
With one other saying: "Sarah Lancashire’s accent was a jump scare."
The show also picked up the award for Most Memorable Moment, having been nominated for the tense finale scene that saw Cawood have a showdown with Tommy Lee Royce in her kitchen.
Actor Rhy Connah joked: "Thanks to Sally Wainwright for writing that memorable scene where my dad blows himself up in front of my grandma."
