Expert: Kazakh platform may become main one for Baku-Yerevan talks

The Kazakh site may become the main venue for negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Kazakh expert Zamir Karazhanov told Report.

“When assessing the Kazakh platform, it is important to note that this country already has experience in conducting such negotiations. In Kazakhstan, there were negotiations between conflicting countries in Syria and separate negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program. We have experience when the country provided mediation services not to conflicting parties, but to those who want to find consensus, compromise and sign an agreement,” he said.

According to Karazhanov, in the case of Azerbaijan and Armenia, Kazakhstan has a good advantage - the country has good relations with both countries, he noted. Therefore, Almaty can continue to be used as a venue, he added.

The expert also touched upon the issue of the process of delimiting borders between countries: “An agreement has already been reached on the delimitation of sections of the borders. Unagreed sections remain, but both sides are ready to solve all problems in a constructive format, so it is quite possible that the peace process will accelerate.”
