Director Francis Ford Coppola may be best known for his contributions to the canon of American films: the Godfather trilogy, Apocalypse Now, Bram Stoker’s Dracula. But Coppola is also a lifestyle entrepreneur, with a family winery and a collection of hideaways around the world bearing his name. Of course, nothing can supplant an artist’s first love, and Coppola recently returned to the director’s chair for Megalopolis, his newest project, starring Adam Driver. We caught up with Coppola ahead of the movie’s premiere at the Cannes film festival to chat about the palazzo where he likes to watch films, why he loves luggage that ages like a fine wine, and the book that inspired the thinking behind his long-awaited science-fiction epic.
Cotton Pajamas
I have pairs in all the colors of the rainbow. When I fall in love with a clothing item, I tend to treat it like a uniform.
The Dawn of Everything
This is one of four David Graeber books that influenced my upcoming film, Megalopolis.
Rubicon Wine
More than a beverage, this is romance, story, drama—a show!
Ghurka Luggage
Like a fine red wine, these bags improve with age.
Apple Watch
Artist Geoff McFetridge, whom I’ve worked with frequently, designed this watch face.
Illy Espresso Machines
I enjoy the beautiful design and quality of the Illy family’s espresso makers wherever I am.
Shellphone
I created and trademarked this “Shellphone” for our family properties in Belize. We’re world leaders in “shellular” technology!
Salon at Palazzo Margherita
It’s magical to watch films at our hideaway in Basilicata, Italy.
