Pentecost Sunday – St Thomas Church

Pentecost Sunday

On the Feast of Pentecost, we celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, marking the birth of the Church. As recounted in Acts 2:1-11, the Spirit descended upon them like tongues of fire, enabling them to speak in diverse languages, a symbol of the universal mission of the Gospel.

In Psalm 103, we echo the plea to God to send forth His Spirit, renewing the face of the earth and sustaining us with His presence. The psalmist reminds us of the eternal glory of the Lord, whose Spirit gives life to all.

In Galatians 5:16-25, we are called to live by the Spirit, bearing the fruits of love, joy, peace, and more. Through the Spirit, we are empowered to die to self-indulgence and live according to the transformative virtues of Christ.

The Gospel of John assures us that the Spirit of truth will guide us into all truth, reminding us of Jesus’ promise to remain with us always. Pentecost reaffirms God’s love, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit within us, and the call to bear witness to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

As we celebrate Pentecost, may we be filled anew with the Holy Spirit, empowered to live lives of love, truth, and witness, reflecting the glory of God to the world.
