Rochester police car stolen; 16-year-old arrested

Rochester, N.Y. — A 16-year-old city resident was taken into custody early Wednesday after stealing a Rochester Police Department patrol vehicle and crashing it, according to police.

At approximately 12:15 a.m., officers were on the scene for a call for service on Spencer Street at Lake Avenue when they saw an individual get into their patrol car and take off.

The stolen vehicle was located after the teen driver crashed on Lake Avenue near Elmtree Road and Tiernan Street, according to police.

The teenager was taken into custody and transported to Rochester General Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the theft and potential charges against the suspect is ongoing.
