Argylle, Henry Cavill’s new film is another flop! To save it, its distribution company prefers to avoid the massacre in theaters and release it in streaming.

A new flop for Henry Cavill

Clearly, Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, The Witcher) is having a hard time establishing himself in the cinema this year! After Argylle, it is now the turn of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare to be a flop. As a reminder, the first film took us to join an author of a spy novel, unwillingly drawn into a real conspiracy on a global scale. Unfortunately, the enormous budget of 200 million dollars, its colorful communication and the actor’s legendary haircut did not succeed in bringing together the public. The production will not even have crossed $100 million at the box office.

As for “The Ministry”, which plunges us into the heart of the Second World War, to carry out a mission to destroy a ship, this one is doing a little better. The latest baby from director Guy Ritchie (The Gentleman) and is currently obtaining very good results in theaters, knowing that it has only been released in the States for the moment. However, the distribution company has just made a radical decision by ousting it from cinemas.

An indoor mission canceled

Surprisingly, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is doing very well. It has not yet been released internationally, but has already collected almost 20 million dollars at the box office. It may not be much compared to Argylle, but it’s normally enough to bring a future to this film, which only cost 60 dollars. In terms of notes, here too Guy Ritchie is acclaimed. On Rotten Tomatoes, it reaps 93% positive reviews by spectators (71% among the press). “Turning a true story of bravery into an action film that’s packed with spectacle and suspense, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is another solid entry into the Guy Ritchie pantheon. », we can read on the aggregator However, these praises were not enough to guarantee a place in theaters for the production. The company Lionsgate, which distributes it, prefers to skip the cinema, to release it on Amazon Prime.

For the moment, no release datee was not announced by the group. We don’t even know if it will have time to finish its journey in American theaters. Guy Ritchie has not yet made a statement, but is already a regular on streaming services. His latest films all go through this box. Operation Fortune: Ruse of War (released in March in the United States) arrived in April 2023 directly on Amazon’s service. The Covenant: Mission in Afghanistan, released in 2023, has also taken the same steps. With this kind of habit developing in Ritchie, it’s likely that all of his next feature films will now avoid the cinema. We don’t know what the filmmaker thinks, but for the industry, it’s not necessarily a good thing to be eaten away by SVOD.
