Q&A
I'd say the first thing you teach someone to do on a bike is walk it out, but this is a trike. So I guess the first thing I'd teach someone on a trike is how to fucking brake.
When in doubt, pull the clutch
A bit confused as there is no motorcycle in this video.
It has ac
It's a trike motorcycle. It requires a motorcycle license and has a motorcycle license plate. It's titled as a motorcycle. It has a motorcycle's VIN number. It' was originally a traditional 2 wheeled motorcycle that was modified by a company to have an additional wheel. It's not like adding a fourth wheel would automatically make it a car. It's a form of a motorcycle.
Motorcycle - noun
Merriam-Webster: an automotive vehicle with two in-line wheels
Cambridge Dictionary: a vehicle with two wheels and an engine
A motorcycle is a motorcycle and a tricycle is a tricycle, they are their own distinct vehicles.
Most, if not all, countries allow you to ride a tricycle if you have your motorcycle license but, in some countries, you may drive a 3-wheeled car if you have your motorcycle so the licensing argument is also moot.
Trike motorcycle isn't a term.
Modifying something is by definition changing it.
And I can rent a 3 ton moving truck with my regular licence. That doesn't make it a car.
There is a motorcycle. It’s just a motortrike and not a motorbike
Well no. Motorcycle specifically refers to two wheels. Look in any dictionary.
Edit: or just downvote me with nothing to back up your argument. Lol.
I mean, that's Reddit for you.
True.
Definition wise, yes. Practically speaking, 3-wheelers are included for licensing purposes. E.g. the Polaris Slingshots that people drive around are technically not regular C license vehicles in most places.
Sure.
But does the fact that I can rent a 3 ton moving truck on my regular licence make it a car?
Where? Since when? Do you know what "trike" is short for?
Tricycle last I check. Not motorcycle.
Tricycle
"a vehicle similar to a bicycle, but having three wheels, two at the back and one at the front."
Motorcycle
"a two-wheeled vehicle that is powered by a motor"
We don't gatekeep here
Lol r/motorcycles not gatekeeping literally the tiniest little thing? That'll fucking be the day!
Someone has to tell the kiddies how it's done properly!
It's not gate keeping. By literal definition it's not a motorcycle.
And someone reposting a stupid viral video doesn't get to have respect here.
I dont consider it a motorcycle either. Only exception is a bike with a side car.
There is no consider. 2 wheels = motorcycle.
And I don't care if someone rides a trike.
Maybe if they were called motorbicycles you would have a point. Literally every person I've ever met would colloquially refer to this as a motorbike.
Maybe just go ahead and look up the definition of motorcycle...
2 wheels not 3.
The irony of using "By LiTeRaL dEfInItIoN" to argue against gatekeeping.
Many jurisdictions include some forms of three-wheelers as motorcycles.
Includes the US, Canada, UK, and afaik the entirity of the EU.
Just because it's a CanAm, Niken or just has a sidecar, doesn't make it less of a motorcycle in spirit or law. It's pedantric gatekeeping and makes you sound like you're about to complain about some clibbins.
What makes you think that the legal definition is the only one that ultimately decides what a motorcycle is? Legal definitions serve a different purpose of efficiently regulating certain types for vehicle for example. It is just easier to say that trikes are also considered motorcycles in the eye of the law. That doesn't make it the universal and supreme definition for motorcycles.
Edit: also what jurisdiction should be the supreme one? I just checked and my country treats trikes differently and doesn't call them motorcycles. Why should your jurisdiction prevail?
A legal definition for insurance or licencing purposes in one part of the world doesn't define a word.
By literal definition it's not, buy legal definition it is. In my state anything with 3 wheels is still legally a motorcycle (even though literally it's a trike)
That's nice. The legality in your part of the world is irrelevant to me and the dictionary definition however.
But that's like one of this sub's top 3 favorite hobbies along with shaming riders for being in an unavoidable crash and pretending that they ride motorcycles
Oh that is SO not true!! Lol
I counted 1.5 motorcycles
Username checks out.
Because a motorcycle by definition has 2 wheels not three? It's easy enough to google. You don't need to know much.
I said "username checks out" not "username is inappropriate".
Fair.
My state defines them as motorcycles and you need a motorcycle license to ride one.
https://www.riders-share.com/blog/article/license-requirements-three-wheeled-motorcycles-by-state
Ok?
I have rented a 3 ton moving truck with my regular driving licence. Does that make it a sportscar?
I'm sorry....but why all the hate ?
What hate?
I read the whole conversation chain, you seen like you don't like me or other called it "motorcycle" because it doesn't have 2 wheels?
What I like has nothing to do with this. By definition a motorcycle has 2 wheels not 3.
Don't bother pal there are some low IQ individuals here that don't even own a bike.
Oversized mobility scooter
Imagine she was on a real motorcycle.. 🫣
🤡
A trike is not a bike
I have to disagree with you, A trike still a bike
It's basically just a mobility scooter 🤷♂️
Lol can't argue with your point
I have to disagree with you, a trike is not a bike.
Nope, I will stayed at it, a trike still a bike but we can agree to disagree
Nope, I will also stayed at it. And I'm not agreeing to disagree either.
Merriam-Webster
Motorcycle: an automotive vehicle with two in-line wheels
Oxford
Motorcycle: a two-wheeled vehicle that is powered by a motor and has no pedals
No. It isn’t
Nope, I keep my poin, it is tho
I hear a lot of laughing but I didn't see anything funny about this 🤷🏻♂️
I thought for sure the camera lady was going to keep giggling as they slammed right into that telephone pole. Why tf didn't grandpa keep his hand on the clutch lever? I assume from the jerking that it's not DCT, but I could be wrong. This thing is one wheel away from being an Accord.
I almost watched two people die…ha ha ha?
Maybe gain a sense of humor? You robot
Keep the video going
"Motorcycle"
That's way to much for a new rider. She's just set up to fail with no protective gear at all. Hopefully didn't get hurt
That seems way easier to handle than a motorcycle since it can't really tip over. Anyway it seems she has no common sense how to handle this thing.
This is why I love the advice to hold your wrist below the handle bar on the throttle side. And of course I drill in the “when in doubt pull the clutch” mentality. The first point makes new rides close the throttle when they make the bike lurch. She has the exact opposite grip, not good for a new rider.
Cant lay down a trike(this is downvote bait)
This feels like some stupid shit that americans would do
I've seen plenty of videos of out of control riders in other countries
Yeah, well, but this whole "let's do this without a helmet"-attitude seems to be an american thing...
You haven't traveled much I guess. Ever been to the Philippines? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2Vic1Skvzs&t=61s
There are a lot of people doing stupid stuff in other countries too, but that is illegal shit.
I bet that it's perfectly legal what happens in this video since it's america, right? Getting lessons on public streets by a family member, perfectly legal in the United States of stupid.
In India I've seen families of 5 on a single motorcycle with no protective gear at all. It's not illegal because there are no laws at all
Same shit as america ngl.
🤡
Weak bait mate.
It is not even bait. Only a stupid country like america would be OK with taking lessons from family members on public roads.
Whatever.
Oh I just googled it
"DISCOVER CAN‑AM WHAT ARE 3-WHEEL MOTORCYCLES CALLED? June 2022 Front view of a Can-Am Ryker Rally on dirt road WHAT NAMES ARE GIVEN TO THREE-WHEEL VEHICLES? Just as two-wheel motorcycles are usually called “bikes”, three-wheel versions tend to be called “trikes”. The term refers to the positioning of the wheels that gives them their instantly recognizable Y configuration and describes the unique format of these motorized vehicles that lie somewhere between a bike and a motorcar."
So: trike motorcycle
No. It’s just a trike
Yep an three wheels motorcycle
Motorcycle - noun

Wikipedia
Motorcycle Two- or three-wheeled motor vehicle
For other uses, see Motorcycle (disambiguation). Not to be confused with Motocycle. A motorcycle (motorbike, bike, or, if three-wheeled, a trike) is a two or three-wheeled motor vehicle steered by a handlebar from a saddle-style seat.
It's a trike yes: a three wheels motorcycle
