England’s captain, Harry Kane, has successfully bounced back from a back injury and is eagerly anticipating leading his country in Euro 2024, according to coach Gareth Southgate.

Kane, aged 30, was subbed off in the second half of Bayern Munich’s Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid couple of weeks ago and subsequently missed the last two Bundesliga matches of the season.

The departing Bayern manager, Thomas Tuchel, mentioned that Kane was grappling with a ‘complete blockage’ and was finding it tough to move around.

Nevertheless, Southgate revealed that his star striker is now ‘pretty much clear’ and expressed his confidence in Kane’s recovery.

‘He is quite relaxed about it. I believe it was a prudent decision to not rush him back for the final game,’ Southgate remarked.

‘Back issues can arise unexpectedly – due to travel or other factors – but we are not overly worried about it currently. Our understanding is that the situation has greatly improved,’ he added.

Following his transfer from Tottenham last summer, Kane notched an impressive 44 goals in 45 appearances for Bayern.

However, his debut season in Germany concluded on a bitter note as the club failed to secure any silverware for the first time since 2012.

Despite this setback, Southgate emphasized Kane’s unwavering commitment to the challenge and his excitement for the forthcoming tournament.

‘He may be disheartened by the league outcome, but his dedication and determination to succeed have remained steadfast. He is certainly looking ahead to this competition,’ Southgate stated.

‘While he may not have clinched the league title, the circumstances at the club have been apparent from the outside. His role has been slightly altered, with a focus on staying higher up the pitch and being less involved in the build-up. Nevertheless, he has delivered on what was expected in terms of goals in the league, and the club is delighted with his performance,’ he concluded.
