Loving dog destroys own tail while stressed at shelter. Sandor needs a new home — fast
A sweet dog with soulful eyes is in desperate need of a new home after suffering from stress and anxiety brought on by animal shelter life.
The Humane Society for Hamilton County (Indiana) posted an urgent call for a foster — or adopted — home for Sandor, a 4-year-old pup who has been so stressed that he managed to destroy his own tail despite the shelter workers doing everything they could to save it.
He’s a “German shepherd mix who recently had to have his tail amputated,” a representative of the Humane Society told McClatchy News in an email. “He is not doing well.”
Photos of Sandor show him wearing a cone and donut as he heals.
“Sandor is amazing canine companion who even passed his cat test with us! He lived with dogs previously and he came to us as his former family moved and could not take him with them,” the Humane Society’s Facebook post reads. “Sandor is asking for nothing more than a quiet place to rest his head and someone who is capable of being a long-term foster. He cannot emotionally handle coming back and forth from the shelter.”
Sandor is on medication and prefers a home where everyone is 10 years or older. He is also house broken and crate trained.
“He is the master of many commands and does fantastic with older children,” the post says. “Sandor needs you now more than ever. Please come to his rescue.”
Information on how to foster Sandor and other animals in need of homes can be found on the shelter’s website.
Fishers, where the shelter is located, is about a 20-mile drive northeast of Indianapolis.
