Inside Emily Blunt's 'difficult' romance with A-list pop star who got his 'heart kicked'

Following her successful role opposite Ryan Gosling in action rom-com The Fall Guy, Emily Blunt has once again hit the headlines thanks to her husband John Krasinski's latest film, IF. While the A-list stars are one of Hollywood's golden couples, Emily was in a high-profile relationship with another huge star before meeting The Office actor.

Back in the early 2000s, Emily dated famous singer and songwriter Michael Buble, who is best known for his top-selling Christmas albums. The pair enjoyed a passionate three-year romance after meeting backstage at one of the musician's concerts in 2005.

The Devil Wears Prada actress Emily, then 22, was completely smitten with the then-30-year-old crooner. The Feeling Good hitmaker was equally enamoured, famously saying: "Every time I see her onscreen, I fall in love with her all over again."

While Emily was moved to tears watching her then-partner perform live. However, by 2008, their relationship had come to an end, with Michael citing the age-old excuse of conflicting schedules as the reason for their split.

"In my business it's tough to go out with another artist because you're never together," he lamented. "You're lucky if you can see the person once every two to three months and with Em, she was on her movies and I was doing my thing so it made it more difficult."

But rumours of infidelity began to circulate, casting doubt on the simple narrative of "busy lives".

In 2007, prior to their breakup, Tiffany Bromley made headlines claiming a decade-long affair with Buble, even releasing shirtless photos of the singer and labelling him a "cheater" and a "rat".

The former flames have remained tight-lipped about the rumours, yet Michael has recently opened up about regretting his past behaviour.

The singer, now 48, admitted to etalk: "I was a jerk and I was careless and reckless with the hearts of women I was with. And I got my karma. I earned it."

He reflected on the personal growth that followed, saying: "I got my butt and heart kicked and it hurt me enough that I looked in the mirror and I didn't want it to happen again.

"If I wanted to be a happy guy and really fall in love, I would have to love myself."

Emily, now 42, described the split as "complicated" but expressed her enduring affection for Michael's family, especially his mother Amber. Fortunately, both celebrities have since discovered true love elsewhere.

Golden Globe-winning star Emily tied the knot with John in 2011 and the pair share two daughters: Hazel and Violet.

Michael found love with Argentinian actress Luisana Lopilato, marrying in 2011, and together they have four children: Noah, Elias, Vida, and Cielo.
