Priyanka Chopra, now a global icon, had a challenging start in the Bollywood industry. In a throwback revelation from 2023, her mother, Madhu Chopra, discussed their early struggles and the decisions that shaped Priyanka's career. Speaking on Josh Talks Asha, Madhu Chopra shared insights into how both Priyanka and she navigated the complex and unfamiliar world of Bollywood.
Madhu Chopra recalled that neither she nor Priyanka had any prior connections or experience in the film industry when Priyanka began her journey. "It was like one blind man leading another blind man," she said, emphasizing their initial cluelessness. With a background in law and finance, Madhu took charge of Priyanka's legal and financial matters, ensuring she had solid support. She accompanied Priyanka to narrations and meetings, providing guidance and oversight.
As they progressed, Madhu and Priyanka had to make crucial decisions about what was acceptable in terms of professional conduct.
Madhu recounted that one day they decided that Priyanka will not have any meetings and will not go out anywhere and will not fraternize after 7-7.30 in the evening. Priyanka stood firm on this decision. Madhu highlighted that Priyanka's determination to maintain her principles often came at a cost. "She lost many films because she refused to do some scenes which she thought were not worth it," Madhu explained. Despite these setbacks, Priyanka remained resilient and focused on her values.
Madhu also emphasized that Priyanka never felt pressured to make acting her sole career. The family maintained a pragmatic approach, reassuring her that acting was not a "do or die" situation. "You can always go back, take up studies, or take up some other career. You have a lot of options. If not this, then that," Madhu recalled telling her daughter.
