A tiny home worth a hefty $200,000 is going under the hammer for just a gold coin reserve, with all the proceeds heading to a crew that looks after our Aotearoa tradies' mental health.
The 55 square meter tiny home is fully decked out, packing in two kitted-out bedrooms, an office, a loo, and a bloody beauty of a kitchen and lounge.
It even comes with all the furniture and appliances. We’re talking a furniture package from Bed, Bath & Beyond, Comfi bedding (queen and single beds with bases), office desk, wardrobe systems, fridge, dishwasher, microwave, and washing machine.
This kind of place is usually worth a hefty 200 grand but could be yours for a sweet bid to a good cause.
Live Well Build Well, a joint effort by the legends at The Mental Health Foundation and ACC kickstarted in 2022. Since then, they’ve been helping tens of thousands of workers in the residential construction industry increase their mental strength and implement strategies to prevent issues like depression and anxiety.
Programme Manager Rafael Caso says they’ve teamed up with Unit2go on a project to provide the organisation with some much-needed cash.
“This funding is going to be huge for us. The work we’re doing is really important and this will allow us to help far more people.”
Caso points out that tradies are often in the line of fire when it comes to mental health hurdles.
“Tradies typically work really hard in an industry that has ups and downs so they can be dealing with a lot of uncertainty,” said Caso.
Mark Ross, the big boss at Unit2go, reckons getting behind Live Well Build Well was a no-brainer.
“I think everyone in our community knows a tradie who’s gone through a tough time mentally, so everyone has been incredibly keen to support this initiative,” he said.
“I’d also like to say a huge thanks to all the suppliers who pitched in and donated time and materials to the unit, this has been a real team effort.”
If you want to check out the unit for yourself, it will be available for a geez from June 12-15 before going under the hammer on the 16th.
