Before she became a lawyer with great fashion sense, Elle Woods was just a regular high schooler. Amazon Prime Video revealed the new Legally Blonde prequel series titled Elle. Reese Witherspoon, who played the iconic character, passed the baton as she revealed she would be on board as producer for the new OTT series. Here's what we know about the comedy prequel.

Amazon announces Legally Blonde prequel series Elle

Elle is the first TV series to emerge from the Legally Blonde universe. It will be helmed by Laura Kittrell who is the showrunner on the upcoming series which will see Elle Woods in high school before the events of a the first Legally Blonde film.
In a statement, Witherspoon said, "I truly couldn’t be more excited about this series! Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do. What could be better than that?! I’m extremely grateful to the incredible teams at Prime Video and Hello Sunshine – along with our amazing writer Laura Kittrell – for making this dream of mine come true. Legally Blonde is back!”

Other projects revolving around Legally Blonde

Besides the prequel series Elle, there is another spinoff planned from the same universe. The other show will be written and executive produced by Gossip Girl's Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. Legally Blonde, which released in 2001, became a cult hit. The sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde came out in 2003. A new movie, Legally Blonde 3, is also in the works; Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor, are co-writing the script.

Reese Witherspoon's upcoming projects

Witherspoon will also continue to star on Apple TV+'s The Morning Show which will be back for Season 4. The actress is also teaming up with Will Ferrell for a new wedding comedy by Amazon MGM Studios titled You're Cordially Invited.
She and Ferrell battle it out for the perfect wedding for their family members when a venue overbooks them on the same day. The comedy film will be premiered on January 30 on Amazon Prime Video.
