Marvel has found its Galactus for its upcoming Fantastic Four movie, and it is a positively inspired casting choice. Rather than going with a name everyone knows, your Pedro Pascal, for instance, they have chosen Ralph Ineson, a supremely talented, prolific actor who absolutely had the voice to carry a world-eating villain. But you may not know his name.
I cited two video games in my headline there, because it’s both my sphere and it was noteworthy that Ineson did significant voicework in two of the biggest games of 2023, which introduced his voice to a generation of gamers. He was Lorath in Diablo 4 and Cidolfus Telamon in Final Fantasy 16, and you’d certainly know it was him.
Ineson has been working around the clock for years now. He’s been in a stunning 31(!) TV, movie and game projects since just 2020. You probably know him best for The Witch or he also had a turn as Dagmer Cleftjaw in Game of Thrones. Way back when he was Finchy in the UK Office. But you’ve seen him, you’ve heard him.
I can’t talk this much about his voice without you hearing it, so here he is in a number of game projects:
Here he is in The Green Knight:
I’m not exactly sure how they’re going to handle his role as Galactus. As in, will it be fully CGI performance capture, or are they going to slap a literal helmet and purple suit of armor on him for this? Knowing Marvel these days, it will probably be VFX, but we’ll see.
With Ineson’s addition to the cast, we now have:
- Pedro Pascal – Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic
- Vanessa Kirby – Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman
- Joesph Quinn – Johnny Storm/The Human Torch
- Ebon Moss-Bachrach – Benn Grimm/The Thing
- Juilia Garner – Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer
- Ralph Ineson – Galactus
- Paul Walter Hauser – Moleman (probably)
- John Malkovich – (Unknown)
The big, obvious role left to cast in Fantastic Four is Doctor Doom, as both he and Galactus are apparently going to be in this film. Current rumors about actors under consideration are Mads Mikkelson, Ben Affleck, Liam Neeson, it’s been a pretty long list over the last few months. It’s not entirely out of the question it’s John Malkovich, but I would be extremely surprised. Whoever it is likely to be behind a mask the vast majority of the time, so it would be a whole lot of voicework with very little facetime. That will no doubt be true of Ineson’s Galactus too, as if he is wearing a literal helmet, I don’t think he’s taking it off. Can Galactus even take that thing off?
As Marvel often does, they have picked a dead-on choice for a role here. I cannot wait to see (and hear) Ineson in the part.
