Suchitra Pillai is well-known for playing Saif Ali Khan’s girlfriend in Dil Chahta Hai. The film also starred Preity Zinta in a key role, with whom Suchitra shares a special connection. Suchitra recently revealed that her husband, Lars Kjeldsen, used to date Preity Zinta. However, she also clarified that they did not break up because of her. Suchitra also recalled the time when she was called a boyfriend snatcher.
When asked if the boyfriend snatcher tag had anything to with Lars and Preity, Suchitra said as quoted in The Indian Express, “No, that’s another story from somebody else. Preity and I were never friends, we were acquaintances because we had a common friend. But, yes, Lars Kjeldsen did date Preity Zinta for some time but that was the breakup he had before he met me and only this part is true. I didn’t come between them, they split up for a totally different reason.”
“The big news that happened, which was a big misunderstanding, it was not because of me. It happened at the time I came back from England, I was called a ‘boyfriend snatcher’ on the cover of several magazines. The headline read, ‘Suchitra Pillai is a boyfriend snatcher.’ It was because I started dating Andrew Coyne, who had started Star Television in India. This was the relationship in question, but it was not because of me that Andrew and his partner and model Achala Sachdev fell apart. It is water under the bridge after many years and Archala and I have a laugh about it,” she was also mentioned as saying.
Suchitra and Lars got married in 2005. They also have a daughter named Annika Kjeldsen. As for Preity Zinta, she married Gene Goodenough in 2016 and welcomed her twins Gia and Jai via surrogacy in 2021.
Preity Zinta is currently in India to film her movie with Sunny Deol, Lahore 1947. The actress, who is making her big-screen comeback after many years, shared a series of behind-the-scenes photos from the sets of the Rajkumar Santoshi directorial earlier. Taking to her official Instagram account, Preity posted the pics and wrote, “On set for Lahore 1947,” accompanied by ‘new movie’ and ‘shooting’ hashtags. ‘Lahore 1947’ is being produced by Aamir Khan.
Preity Zinta and Sunny Deol have previously collaborated on multiple films like Hero: The Love Story of a Spy, Farz, and Bhaiyaji Superhit. Veteran actress Shabana Azmi is also a part of ‘Lahore 1947. Director Rajkumar Santoshi recently revealed that her character plays a pivotal role in the period film. Rajkumar Santoshi also revealed that AR Rahman and Javed Akhtar would also be in the film. He said that this is his best ‘dream team’.
