Lake Norman SG Tre McKinnon commits to App State

McKinnon has averaged 13.8 points and 5.3 rebounds since his freshman year on varsity.

A talented shooting guard from Mooresville has committed to play at Appalachian State University. Tre McKinnon, who is a rising senior Lake Norman High School, announced his decision to his X account on Monday morning.

McKinnon is listed at 6-foot-5. The class of 2025 prospect also received offers from Charlotte, East Carolina, Hampton, High Point, and Western Carolina over the course of his recruitment.

He is Appalachian State's first commitment for the class of 2025.

Lake Norman reached the N.C. High School Athletic Association's 2024 4A West regional final with McKinnon as its second-leading scorer at 15.4 points-per-game. There, the Wildcats fell to eventual state champion North Mecklenburg by a score of 65-61 in overtime. The Wildcats finished the season with a 28-3 overall record.

McKinnon has played a big role on the Wildcats' varsity team since his freshman season in 2021-2022. He averaged 11.6 points as a freshman and 14.3 points as a sophomore. He has been credited with 1,189 points, 460 rebounds, 73 assists, 116 steals, and 59 blocks over his first three years of High School.
