Microsoft Surface Laptop Touchpad Not Working

When I turned my laptop on, my touchpad no longer worked. I cannot click down. When I go to Device Manager under Human Interface Devices I do not have HID-compliant touchpad nor I2C HID Device nor do I have anything beside HID-compliant mouse under Mice and other pointing devices. My keyboard works fine and my pens works as well. I can use the mouse no problem when I use an external mouse. I have updated everything under optional updates but still does not work. It seems that I am completely missing a driver.

Hi imgguti,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your touchpad on your Microsoft Surface Laptop. Based on the information you've provided; it seems that the touchpad driver may be missing or corrupted. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:

- Force a shutdown and restart your Surface: Force a shutdown and restart your Surface - Microsoft Support

- Verify it works in UEFI. How to use Surface UEFI - Microsoft Support If they keyboard/touchpad works in UEFI, it shows that the keyboard does appear to function, and there may be a driver or Windows driven issue.

- Run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface app and Surface Diagnostic Toolkit - Microsoft Support

- Reset using the most appropriate choice. If you've tried basic troubleshooting options, you may need to restore or reset your Surface. If the issue occurs after a reset, then the root cause is very likely hardware related. Restore or reset Surface for Windows - Microsoft Support

If the issue occurs after a reset, then the root cause is very likely hardware related. There is likely a hardware problem with the Surface keyboard. How to get service or repair for Surface - Microsoft Support
