Ali Wong Reveals How Boyfriend Bill Hader Made His Move After Hearing About Her Divorce Filing

ALI Wong is currently on a roll. After winning multiple awards during the Hollywood awards season for her performance in Netflix’s series The Beef, the actor took the centrestage at Netflix Is A Joke Fest show on May 12 and recounted how her boyfriend, Bill Hader, made his first move on her. 

During the show, Wong revealed that the SNL alum reached out to her shortly after she filed for divorce from Justin Hakuta in April 2022. Wong shared the tale, recalling a phone call from a guy she’d met at a dinner party before. He had obtained her number from a mutual friend and expressed his long-standing crush on her, declaring her his dream girl and asking her to be his girlfriend.

Amidst signing up for a dating app, Wong humorously replied, “I just paid $25. You seem really nice, but I gotta get my money’s worth.”

But Bill’s romantic endeavors didn’t stop there. While Wong vacationed in Europe shortly after, he sent flowers to every hotel she stayed in during her trip, prompting mixed reviews from her male friends, with Wong joking about the decline in romantic gestures from men.

Nevertheless, Wong and Hader, who share children Mari, 8, and Nikki, 6, with their respective exes, began sparking romance rumors in December 2022. They officially debuted as a couple at the Golden Globe Awards in January 2024.

Although they prefer to keep their relationship private, Wong expressed surprise at the attention their public appearance garnered, remarking to Access Hollywood the following month, “We’ve been together for a minute so I guess people didn’t know we were together.”
