The godmother of punk has reportedly left her fortune to those closest to her and those in need.

New documents have revealed that the late style icon and millionaire fashion designer Vivienne Westwood left her £20.5 million ($39 million AUD) fortune to her family and charities, The Sun Reports.

It is reported that Westwood, who passed in December 2022, included her two sons, her third husband Andreas Kronthaler and unnamed charities in her will that detailed who should take on her famous estate.

According to The Sun, a fashion source said: "[Dame Vivienne] was ill for a time before she passed so had everything in order. And, for her, family came first – and this is shown in her will.

"But [she] also had strong beliefs and so she wanted some of her earnings to go towards charities that she supported."

While it is not known what charities she honoured in her will, she has long been known to support climate change and civil rights activism.

Westwood supported countless causes and also launched her own campaigning movement called the Climate Revolution.

In 2018, Westwood received the award for Positive Change at The Fashion Awards.

During her acceptance speech for the award she pleaded with those watching to aid her in her activism.

"I want you to help me to save the world, I can't do it on my own," she said.

After a lifetime of challenging the status quo and becoming the face of fashion activism, Westwood passed away in December 2022.

While she is no longer on earth, her legacy lives on through her fashion label Vivienne Westwood, her activism work and her surviving family.

Shortly before her death at age 81, Westwood passed on the reigns of her fashion label to fellow fashion designer, Jeff Banks.

Westwood is survived by her husband Kronthaler, who is an Austrian creative director and design partner. As well as her two sons, Ben, 60, and Joseph, 56, who were born during her previous relationships.
