EAST STROUDSBURG – Following a record-shattering freshman season, the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) announced that East Stroudsburg University softball pitcher
Sarah Davenport was named the D2CCA Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year. Joining Davenport on the D2CCA All-Region First Team were senior third baseman
Reilly Vicendese and sophomore utility player
Delaney Ridgell. Davenport becomes the first pitcher in program history to be named to D2CCA Altlantic Region Pitcher of the Year and joins Vicendese (2024,) Ridgell (2024),
Paige Zigmund (2023) and Marah Range (2021) as Warriors to earn D2CCA All-Region First Team.
Davenport recorded one of, if not the most successful single season pitching campaigns in program history in 2024. The PSAC East Pitcher of the Year and Freshman of the Year finished her first season as a Warrior with a 25-7 record (2nd most wins), 1.31 ERA (4th best since 1985), 322 strikeouts (program record), strikeouts per 7-innings (12.11), 186.2 innings pitched (4th), 42 appearances (program record), .188 batting average against (program record), and eight saves (program record). She previously earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region First Team honors.
The Hillsborough, N.J. native leads all levels of NCAA Softball with 322 strikeouts on the season. In NCAA Division II, she ranks first in strikeout-per-7 innings, second in strikeout-to-walk ratio, seventh in wins, 10th in saves, 11th in WHIP, 19th in hit allowed-per-7 innings and 22nd in ERA as one of the top hurlers in the sport. After breaking ESU's program record with her 187th strikeout on the season, she became the first Warrior in program history to eclipse 200 and 300 strikeouts in a single campaign. Her 322 punchouts rank 7th all-time in a single season in PSAC history.
Ridgell, who also earned All-PSAC East First Team honors at utility/non-pitcher, earns her second honor this offseason in her first season as a Warrior after transferring from Caldwell after her freshman season. Primarily playing at catcher during
Sarah Davenport's and
Abbie Landrum's starts, along with designated player duties, Ridgell closed the season batting .355 with 66 hits, 16 extra-base hits, and 30 RBIs. She tied for second in the PSAC with five triples. The Maryland native posted a 12-game hitting streak earlier this season. As a catcher, Ridgell has thrown out seven of 12 runners attempting to steal a base and gave up just one passed ball. She closed her sophomore season reaching base in each of her final seven contests.
Vicendese closes her storied collegiate career as one of the top hitters and fielders in program history. She earned her third All-PSAC East selection in 2024 and batted .329, with 75 hits and 25 RBIs, successfully stealing 30 bases on 34 attempts. She led the Warriors with 23 multi-hit games. In her Warrior career, she set career program records in hits (252), RBIs (110), runs scored (164), stolen bases (108) and assists (384). The Ellicott City, Md. product finished her career with 197 putouts and just 18 errors for a .970 fielding percentage.
The Warriors finished the season with a 46-17 record, setting the single-season record for wins in a season and hosted the NCAA Atlantic Regional as the top seed for the second consecutive season. ESU has now reached the NCAA Tournament in three of the past four seasons. ESU collected its second consecutive and first sole possession of the PSAC East regular season championship after sharing the title with West Chester. ESU finished as the runner-up in the PSAC Tournament, its best finish since 1980.
