Had a blackout moment

Boomer Story

LOOOOONG STORY....My wife's paternal uncle and aunt visited us as they were making their annual tour of the lower 48. They're plenty nice enough, but something her uncle said caused me to - honestly - have a second-long blackout from rage before I came back to sanity.

We were touring a local historic site and for whatever reason her uncle started in on how expensive everything has become. I simply nod and mutter something along the lines of "Yep, the cost of living has definitely risen lately."

Then, Boomy McBoomerface (while wearing white crew socks and Crocs, which for some reason enrage me) whines, "Well, thank God for Social Security (AND HIS FUCKING $80k/year PENSION, $65k/year 401(k)), or else I would be eating cat food!".

He and his wife have had their 20 acre spread and 5 bed/4 bath home in upstate middle America paid off for 20 years while my wife (who has 2 Masters degrees and earns around $130k/year) and I (barely graduated high school and somehow earn $100k/year) struggle to pay rent.

Said homestead in upper middle America cost them $80k back in 1992. Oh, and they have a large garden, livestock, and a well for water.

I feel myself inching ever-closer to Terminal Anger.

I say, "Well, if we weren't forced at gunpoint to fork over a large percentage of our earnings to Social Security (which we will never collect), then perhaps we could - y'know - fund our own retirements and not have to worry about future generations being forced to fund our later years' security."

Then...it...happens.

Uncle Arrogant Greedy McSelfish III says what causes my temporary unconciousness: "Hey!! I rely on you guys because without you paying in to SS, I would still be working! You're funding MY retirement!!" He sports a smug, cocksucking grin.

I feel coolness on my forehead and cheeks as I realize I have started a slight sweat induced by anger.

I look at him, incredulously, and ask "Why in the actual FUCK should WE fund YOUR retirement?! Huh?! Did you ever stop to think that maybe YOU should fund YOUR retirement, you selfish prick?! Why is it MY generation's responsibility to pick up the tab for YOUR generation's stupidity and greed?!"

I am full-throated SCREAMING at him by this point because I cannot express my feelings without further placing myself at the mercy of the law and the grace of those around me.

A few moments pass. My wife has her hands on my shoulders and is trying to calm me. Meanwhile Uncle Crybaby stares off into the middle distance not saying a word.

I have never in all of my born days wanted to clock somebody across their dentures as badly as I did on that day.

The appalling arrogance...the insatiable greed...the sickening entitlement of Boomers will be remembered for all time as truly one of the low points in our species' history.

Thank you for reading. This was cathartic to get off my chest.

You are an arrogant SOB. Do you honestly think that Boomer had a say in where his FICA went to? Pluueeaase spare the rest of us your whining. No one ever had a chance since 1913 when they took over the Fed on Jeckle Island did we EVER HAVE A TAX. so the Boomer never had a chance to say NO THE HELL WE WONT PAY FICA FOR YOU OLD BASTARDS THAT TOOK OUR MONEY😊

Of course he had a voice, you incompetent mouth-breathing booger-eater. I mean, it's called "voting", right?! I mean, with all the talk of how we have "our democracy".

Tell me, which gubmint stooge has put forth a serious proposal to repeal the income tax amendment since "We The People" support exactly that?

All done? Thought so.

Come on. Where are you living making 230k between the two of you and struggling to pay rent ?

Living with my FIL (an 80-year old Boomer of the Boomer-est Boomers Who Ever Boomered) Nashville (one of the hottest property markets in America, thanks to no state income tax, toll roads, and general small-government prescence), while we struggle to pay gargantuan student loan debt (without which we would be sooooo destitute, say the Boomers), as Nashville is the state capitol (with the attendant gubmint appart), NHL, NFL, MLS, and soon-to-be MLB team presences, not to mention that Nashville has lately become the bachelor/Bachelorette party destination as well as tourism via Music Row.

Yeah, even for low-six figures earners it is tough.
