Although Arsenal has the opportunity to reclaim the top spot by beating Manchester United on Sunday, City remains within touching distance of history. With a game in hand against Tottenham Hotspur scheduled for Tuesday, Guardiola's side are merely two wins away from clinching an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title.

The breakthrough came in the 13th minute when Croatian defender Gvardiol seamlessly combined with Kevin De Bruyne, slotting home a neat one-two to give City the lead. Foden extended their advantage in the 59th minute with a clinical finish, before Gvardiol struck again, tapping in Bernardo Silva's cross at the back post.

The match was sealed in stoppage time as Alvarez calmly converted a penalty, awarded for a foul by Fulham's Issa Diop, who was subsequently sent off.

Burnley relegated after Spurs defeat

Burnley's Premier League journey came to a sorrowful end as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur, sealing their relegation with one game remaining in the season.

The result left Burnley languishing in 19th place with 25 points from 37 games, leaving them with no hope of escaping the drop. Their fate was sealed as they joined Sheffield United as the second team to suffer relegation this season.

Despite a glimmer of hope after Jacob Bruun Larsen expertly finished a counter-attack to give Burnley the lead in the 25th minute, it was short-lived as Pedro Porro leveled the score just after the half-hour mark with a powerful strike following a dazzling solo run.

In the second half, Burnley goalkeeper Arijanet Muric pulled off two crucial saves to keep his side in contention, but their hopes were dashed in the 82nd minute when Micky van de Ven curled a shot into the bottom corner, condemning Burnley to relegation.

It was a heartbreaking conclusion for Burnley, marking the end of their tenure in the Premier League for the foreseeable future.
