Deadpool & Wolverine promises a significant shake-up of the Marvel Cinematic Universe when it drops this summer. However, whether Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will continue to cause chaos in the MCU beyond their titular portrayals in the upcoming blockbuster remains a question mark.

Speaking with Empire Magazine, Reynolds and Jackman, who respectively portray the eponymous "Merc With a Mouth" and the claw-wielding mutant, addressed whether they will reprise their roles for future MCU projects. In their typically humorous way, the duo coyly responded to the question, with Reynolds claiming “I’m very nervous talking to you," while Jackman added, "I’ve never been so scared of what’s coming out of my mouth."

Reynolds and Jackman will be making their MCU debuts in Deadpool & Wolverine, having previously portrayed their famous characters during the 20th Century Fox era, with Reynolds playing Wade Wilson in the previous two Deadpool entries and Jackman being synonymous with the X-Men film series. The actors and long-time friends have been teasing the events in Deadpool & Wolverine ever since Jackman came out of his Wolverine retirement in 2022, despite Marvel president Kevin Feige advising him not to come back due to how his last foray as the antihero ended in 2017's Logan.

Deadpool & Wolverine Is Hugely Anticipated

The most anticipated summer film in 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine sees Reynolds' Wade Wilson called away from his quiet life by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) on a game-changing Multiversal mission, with Wade calling on Wolverine for his world-saving experience. The anticipation is telling considering the trailer for the latest Deadpool film set an MCU viewership record as Marvel hopes the impending tentpole tilts the cinematic universe in the right direction after experiencing multiple critical and commercial failures in 2023.

Deadpool & Wolverine sees Reynolds and Jackman star alongside Jennifer Garner, Karan Soni, Morena Baccarin and Brianna Hildebrand. The film will also boast multiple celebrity cameos, with heavily rumored names such as Taylor Swift and Halle Berry expected to feature. Meanwhile, the trailers have teased the inclusion of other X-Men, with director Shawn Levy confirming one returning member of the mutant group ahead of the film's debut.

Along with the major stakes and cameos is a "mind-blowing" post-credits scene teased by Deadpool comic book creator, Rob Liefeld. The film plans multiple promotional campaigns before its release, with an NSFW popcorn bucket and an Avengers: Secret Wars anti-cell phone PSA teased in the coming months.

Deadpool & Wolverine opens in theaters on Jul. 26.
