While we quite liked Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite when it launched way back in 2017, it wasn’t all that well received. Part of the issue was its visual style, which even we thought was pretty bland. Now a team of modders are working on correcting that issue, giving Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite a cel-shaded makeover that brings new life to the game. On PC only, of course.

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite’s cel-shaded makeover is underway after the popular fighting game content creator Maximillian Dood (@maximilian_) commissioned game dev and artist Ryn (@WistfulHopes) to begin working on a new art style for the game. Ryn quickly rose to the task, first working on characters such as Ryu which really struck a chord with fans, then also making tweaks to some backgrounds, which really demonstrated how the game’s visuals could be turned around.

Of course, with Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite being quite a hefty game when it comes to characters and backgrounds, doing everything is going to be a gargantuan task. The good news is that it appears that members have now been added to the team, which means that a cel-shaded version of the game should come to fruition a little quicker than perhaps expected.

The tweet above should give a quick idea of how dramatic the visual change is. It’s very striking, and we’re sure you’ll agree that it has way more character. With the new art style, it actually looks like a worthy successor to Marvel vs Capcom 3. Ryn has even uploaded a gameplay video, allowing fans to see to see the cel-shaded mod in action.

Being a mod, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite’s new cel-shaded look isn’t officially sanctioned by Capcom or Marvel. For PC fighting game fans still keen on playing the game, however, it’s bound to be of interest. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if the mod attracts more players when it’s done. You should probably give Maximilian Dood and Ryn a follow on Twitter/X, if you don’t already if you’re keen to track the mod’s progress.
