Rajasthan Royals (RR) ended at the third position in the final standings of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 points table after their match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati was abandoned due to rain on Sunday, May 19.
Being the last league game, Rajasthan who had 16 points to their name, needed to win this match to finish in the top two and directly play the qualifiers instead of the eliminator. The result of the first match of the day between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings fell in favour of the former.
Since SRH won the first game, nothing but a win would have seen Rajasthan finish in the top two. Now RR will face RCB in the eliminator.

The match had the end it was expected to have since 7 pm IST onwards, The rains were never going to go away and they persisted as the game was called off and the official result stood 'match abandoned'. Courtesy of this, Rajasthan Royals will finish at the third spot and will have to fight against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Eliminor to climb up the ladder toward the final.
More than the rain, the Royals have themselves to blame as they failed to win even one of their last four games and as a result, despite having the same number of points as Sunrisers Hyderabad, they have to finish in the third position with a slightly inferior net run rate.
