Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church to host Taste of Greece philanthropic dinner event
Missing the taste of flakey spinach pie, pork souvlaki and warm, buttery baklava from your favorite Greek festival?
While Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church's carryout festival won't take place this summer, you can still get your Greek fix and enjoy live entertainment at their new event.
The church's Ladies Philoptochos Society, a program in Greek Orthodox churches focused on philanthropy and helping others, will host a night called Taste of Greece.
"We decided to have a sit-down dinner because there have been requests from people to come in like they used to and sit down with their friends and enjoy Greek food," said Dorothy Livaditis, Chairwoman of Annunciation's Ladies Philoptochos Society.
The proceeds from the event will go towards supporting two local charities, including Olivia's House, a grief and loss center for children, and Turning Point Counseling, an advocacy center for victims of abuse and domestic violence.
"We decided to pick two local organizations doing good work in the community. We're hopeful if the event goes well to make it an annual fundraiser with the goal being to donate the proceeds to local charities."
The event will take place on Saturday, June 1, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and includes a sit-down full dinner buffet, featuring festival favorites, and live Greek music with bouzouki players.
Buffet options sinclude Greek salad, Pastitsio, pork kabobs, Athenian chicken, orzo, green beans, spinach puffs, assorted pastries and more. Non-alcoholic drinks as well as iced tea, lemonade and Greek coffee will be provided. A tour through the church will also be available upon request.
Tickets are only available online at eventbrite.com, for $60 per person. The event will take place in the Hellenic Cultural Center at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church located at 2500 Pine Grove Road, York.
Can't make it to this event? The next Greek Food Festival will be held from Friday, Sept. 20 to Sunday, Sept. 22.
