Keely Hodgkinson, the accomplished Olympic and world silver medalist, has established a new personal record in the 400 meters at the Meeting Citta di Savona. The 22-year-old athlete from Atherton, under the guidance of Wigan coaches Trevor Painter and his wife Jenny Meadows, is celebrated for her achievements in the 800m, having secured silver medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and in the 2022 and 2023 world championships.

On Wednesday, Hodgkinson delivered an impressive performance in Italy, finishing the 400m in 51.61 seconds. This time surpasses her previous best of 51.76 seconds, set at last year’s European Under-23 Championships. Her achievement comes just 72 days before the start of the Paris Olympics, marking an excellent start to her Olympic season.

Hodgkinson, who set a new British 800m record in Tokyo, is now preparing for an anticipated competition against Athing Mu and Mary Moraa at the Prefontaine Classic next weekend. Following this, she will turn her focus to the European Championships in Rome early next month, an event she is keen to fully embrace.

“I would like to win as many medals as possible in my career,” Hodgkinson shared recently. “And I think if I was to miss it (Rome), I’d be missing out on an opportunity. I’d love to look back on my career and say I did this many European Championships and I won this many medals. I don’t want anything to go to waste.”

Hodgkinson’s dedication and impressive form suggest she is well on her way to achieving her ambitious goals, with a promising season ahead as she prepares for the upcoming Olympics and European Championships.
