Prediction: Messiah Complex and Schism (Spoilers)

Discussion

X-Men '97 has been hitting some major comic plot points at break-neck speed. The introduction of Captain America, the decidedly more militant and isolationist tone that many of the team are gravitating towards after Genosha, and frequent allusions to the return of the Phoenix make me think the season will end by setting up the X-Men vs. Avengers storyline using the Phoenix's return to Jean Grey as the instigating factor.

Prediction: Cable, under the machinations of Sinister, almost kills Jean, but she summons the Phoenix force and survives. The return of the Phoenix sets off alarm bells with the Shiar, the Kree, and the Avengers. In the Messiah Complex story arc, the Phoenix force intends to make Hope Summers the new vessel, and the Avengers attempt to take Hope into custody (or, in the case of Wolverine, just kill her) to prevent a repeat of the trillions of lives destroyed during the Dark Phoenix storyline, when it chose Jean Grey as it's avatar. The X-Men, under an increasingly unhinged (or badass, depending on your view) Cyclops understandably pulls a lol nope, fight me on this.

Tolerance is Extinction: Part 3 will end with the Avengers and some cosmic forces all converging towards the X-Men, and the X-Men, traumatized by Genosha genocide and everything else that's been going on, close ranks and stop pulling their punches. However, since this series does a great job of combining storylines and knocking out whole arcs in single episodes, I think we'll get a mixture of plot points: the ending of tomorrow's episode will set up not only Avengers vs X-Men, but also Schism.

We've already seen Rogue and Sunspot join Magneto. Cyclops is increasingly veering into the modern Krokoa Magneto-light version of his character. The whole team is kinda shitting on Professor X right now. This sets the tone for the Schism arc, where the X-Men split over conflicting ideals of maintaining certain ethical boundaries, and a by any means necessary approach.

I would add that Gambit is part of the marauders in messiah complex, and they’ve introduced marauders in the X-men 97 comic, and have hinted that evil Gambit is coming.

Break-neck speed is an understatement. I feel like if I answer a text or something I’ll miss what was 6 months worth of comic book exposition condensed into a single scene

captain america will destroy magneto and his little mutant supremacist group. america is meant for all people, not just mutants led by old straight white man like magneto
