Calling people ‘bro, bruh, dude, or man’

Fairly Annoyed

I’m not your bro. Don’t assume someone’s gender, find a grownup way to communicate with people and take your macho bullshit elsewhere.

‘Brotherhood of Man’?

Please, this is the 21st century.

I thought everyone agreed that "dude" is neutral?

Dude is for men, dudette is for women.

Whenever I hear "dudette" I think of surfers. Dude is more neutral.

Chill bro

Get a grip. Half the time they're used as gender neutral terms anyway. If you go outside you'll discover some real problems you can get worked up about.

lol good point

A chick that I won't be banging is a bro. Everyone is a dude.

Your mom is a dude.

We're all dudes

So a chick you will bang is a sis?

She'll get the whole array of terms of affection

My genx ass will never let go of “dude”, or “you guys”.   Both gender neutral

I call everyone, regardless of gender, bro, dude, or man. I thought dude was gender neutral?

We don’t have many black people in my corner of the world, but if someone called me ‘my N-word’, I’d understand the sentiment, but I’d feel wicked uncomfortable.

Oh shit. Yeah, I get what you mean now.

It's really not the serious bruh

yea, next go stop an 18 wheeler with a road cone pal.

Referring to black people using the N-word worked great for 300 years, I’d step in front of that truck in a heartbeat.

you escalated that one pretty quick there my fellow mind/body complex. how'd you get to bridging that gap?

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man

Relax brochacho, don't get so tense about it dude. Like, lax the tf man. Bruh all pressed for no reason.

That's just how some people talk. I call everyone dude. It isn't malice or being insensitive. It's just a speech pattern.

Sorry buddy. I won't do that again.

I especially hate “dude”. I’ve had two people on Reddit in the past call me that even though I told them not to. It’s just so immature to say.

I took a lot of shit for this post. My point was, what if you said dude or bro to a trans person, or a gender neutral person. I agree, I find it’s useful as a shortcut to friendliness, but I think when you grow up, there’s better, more thoughtful and more compassionate ways to address people in passing.

It’s a personal practice, I’m not easily offended. I’ll accept greetings of kindness of whatever kind from anyone. I’m just going to find a more mature way to express myself when returning the sentiment 🤷

You seem to have a very simple way of looking at life.

Come down off the cross, use the wood to build a bridge, and use the bridge to get over yourself.

And I’m not your “bro” (Vine explosion)

u/Play-yaya-dingdong avatar

Its “Im not your ‘bra’”.  Zoolander

I guess I mean that we don’t use gendered titles anymore.

Aviatrix, waitress, actress, postman, fireman became pilot, server, actor, delivery person, and first-responder. Gendering terms like that needlessly distinguishes people’s qualifications and capability. A lady can fly a plane, serve customers, and perform as well as anyone else, so why the qualifier?
