Rui Costa heard at DCIAP. Benfica confirms suspicions

Benfica confirmed, in a statement issued through its official platforms at the end of Tuesday morning, that its president, Rui Costa, was heard at the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DCIAP).

The club's top leader, we can read, "gave statements on behalf of Benfica, in the so-called 'email process'", following "an imputation of undue offer of advantage and an imputation of tax fraud", after the Public Ministry 'dropped' the suspicions of corruption.

The news was initially released by Jornal de Notícias, which reported that the former president of the incarnate, Luís Filipe Vieira, the former legal advisor, Paulo Gonçalves, and the former executive director of SAD, Domingos Soares de Oliveira, would also give testimony.

At issue was an alleged plan to "control Portuguese football", which would involve loaning players from its staff to teams in the I League, as a way of promoting relations with the respective clubs.
