Donald Glover is a busy man, but he wants to clarify that his schedule isn't what's keeping Peacock's Community: The Movie from starting production. The actor noted he's getting a lot of hate because of it online.

Community ran for six seasons and became a cult classic, despite never becoming a huge hit when it comes to ratings. Created by Dan Harmon, the series starred Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Donald Glover, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown, Chevy Chase, and Ken Jeong. The sitcom followed an unlikely group of friends who started a study group at Greendale Community College.

'It's So Funny': Community Star Offers Exciting Update on Reunion Movie
Community series alum Alison Brie provides a major update on the eponymous movie's development and her thoughts on the film.

Shortly after the show was renewed for a sixth season in 2014, a conversation about the film started. Showrunner Dan Hamron said Yahoo! wanted a film right after the series wrapped, but he wasn't ready to produce the film then. Since then, the creator has continued to express interest in continuing the story. Peacock officially ordered the film in September 2022. With several delays, including the SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023, the film hasn't started filming yet. But Glover, who played Troy in the series, denied that it was his fault for the delays.

It’s happening but I don’t know when. I swear, it’s happening,” Glover told Deadline. When his busy schedule was brought up, the actor noted, “Everybody is hating on me on the internet and it’s not me! They’re like, ‘We know that you’re the reason.’ Maybe I was last year — maybe — but not this time.”

For a long time, Community explored the possibility of Jeff and Britta getting together. With a movie on the way, it's time to bring that idea back.

Who Will Return to Community: The Movie

After Peacock officially ordered the film, Harmon and Andrew Guest were announced as writers. When it comes to the series' stars, the original actors who were confirmed to reprise their roles were McHale (Jeff), Pudi (Abed), Brie (Annie), Jacobs (Britta), Jim Rash (Craig Pelton), and Ken Jeong (Ben Chang). Yvette Nicole Brown (Shirley) also later confirmed she would return. Glover was the last one to confirm his involvement.

Early in April, McHale also confirmed Chevy Chase will not be a part of the film. “I don’t think he’s allowed to [return],” McHale told IndieWire. “I don’t think it would happen. I don’t think [him returning] is a thing. Obviously his unceremonious departure in Season 4 pretty much did that in.” McHale added: “I’m guessing if you asked him, he wouldn’t be interested” in starring in the movie.

McHale, who spoke to Deadline in March, previously revealed that the movie will shoot “this year” and that he’d be “shocked” if it doesn’t. “But I really do think it’s happening this year, and probably next week. It’s basically working around Donald’s schedule,” he joked.
