Red Devils suffer 3-1 road loss against Berlin

()

1. FC Kaiserslautern will have to wait at least until Sunday to see if they will spend another year in the second division after losing to Hertha 3-1 in Berlin.

The Red Devils fell behind 1-0 when Hertha’s Haris Tabakovic scored on a penalty in the 19th minute after being fouled by Jan Elvedi. Marlon Ritter tied the game in the 39th minute on a right-footer. Jeremy Dudziak put Berlin back on top with a goal in first-half stoppage time. The Red Devils never got on track in the second half. and Fabian Reese put the game away for Hertha with a goal in the 67th minute.

FCK will now have to wait for the result of Sunday’s Braunschweig against Wiesbaden match. As it stands now, the worst that Kaiserslautern can do is finish in 16th place and face the third division’s third-place team in the relegation series. If Braunschweig wins, the Red Devils are saved, if Wiesbaden wins everything will be decided next Sunday.

FCK takes on Braunschweig in the last game of the season at a sold-out Fritz Walter Stadium. A win or a tie and the Red Devils are in Bundesliga 2 for another year. A FCK loss along with a Wiesbaden win over St. Pauli would leave the Red Devils in 16th place.
