On Wednesday morning, the City University of New York Athletic Conference revealed its community college baseball all-star awards and team, as voted upon by the league's head coaches. The Broncos were represented well, with four players getting honored, including all-stars Wilber Batista, Juan Rodriguez, and Brayan Rubio, as well as sportsmanship team member Moises Ortega. Following the announcement of the awards, Head Coach Adolfo DeJesus praised the four Bronx honorees.

"These four young men joined our program this past summer and worked diligently to establish themselves as cornerstones," DeJesus said. "Each one of today's honorees brings a unique skill set to the table, and they've all shown their value to our team throughout this 2024 campaign. I am confident that they will continue to improve both on the field and in the classroom. The sky is certainly the limit for all of them."

Batista, the Broncos' ace pitcher, put forth a strong season for Bronx. The DeWitt Clinton High School product appeared in 10 contests, starting four of them. He led the team with a 5.26 ERA, twirling 37.2 innings and allowing 22 earned runs while striking out 46 batters.

Perhaps the most revealing display of Batista's brilliance came from his incredible performances during a seven-day span from April 16 through April 22. With a 2-5 CUNYAC record, the Broncos needed to take three out of four games against Queensborough, while also needing to defeat BMCC in a single contest, to qualify for the conference championship game. Pitching a game apiece against the Tigers and Panthers, the sensational Batista combined to toss 12.1 innings, allowing just two runs and three hits while walking two and striking out 18.

Rodriguez was a key contributor for the Broncos offense during the 2024 campaign. Appearing in 28 of the team's 32 contests, the freshman earned a batting average of .293, while leading the team with a 512 on-base percentage. The standout collected 17 hits, walked 18 times, and was hit by a pitch a team-high nine times. He was also six-for-six stealing bases. Finally, his 20 runs scored were good for second-most on Bronx. In regular season CUNYAC competition, Rodriguez was dominant, hitting .347 with 14 runs scored, five RBI's, and a triple.

Rubio, like Rodriguez, earned a .293 batting average. He established himself as one of the most productive players in the conference, playing in 27 games and registering 13 extra-base hits (10 doubles, two triples, and a homer) and walking 10 times. His 41 total bases, 24 hits, 20 RBI's, and 10 doubles were all team-highs. In regular season CUNYAC games, Rubio hit .289 with 10 RBI's, nine runs scored, four doubles, and a homer.

Ortega displayed incredible sportsmanship during the 2024 campaign, showing nothing but the utmost respect for his coaches, teammates, and the opposition. One of the hardest-working players on the roster, Ortega played in 24 of the team's games, always showing up early and committing himself to be the best player he could be.
