A young child was hospitalized after being hit by a car that was backing out of a driveway in Norwood on Tuesday night.
Authorities received a 911 call just before 7:30 p.m. regarding an incident on Jefferson Drive.
The child, a 4-year-old, was bleeding and had suffered abrasions to the face and the left arm, Norwood Police said.
These were treated as serious injuries. The child was brought to Norwood Memorial Airport by first responders and then transported to Massachusetts General Hospital via helicopter, police said. The child remained in the hospital Wednesday morning.
A cookout was being held at the time, and the person who hit the child was apparently going out to the store to pick up more supplies, police said. The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police. No charges have been filed.
