Road to Freedom Objectives

1. Go to the Old North Church
2. Enter the Corridor
3. Solve the Freedom Trail Puzzle
4. Meet the Railroad
5. Ask the Railroad to Examine the Courser Chip (Act 2)
6. Report Back to Virgil (Act 2)
7. Talk to Desdemona (Act 2)

Go to the Old North Church

To start, go to the Old North Church in the North End. Regardless of how you initiated this quest, you can immediately head to this location and find the Railroad HQ.

Enter the Corridor

Upon reaching the nave, you'll see a corridor in the bottom right corner. Follow this corridor until you reach the Freedom Trail Ring.

Solve the Freedom Trail Puzzle

Enter the code RAILROAD on the Freedom Trail to unlock the passageway to the Railroad. To do this, rotate the outer ring's letters towards the arrow, pressing the button in the middle for each letter. If you miss a letter or two, simply repeat from R to solve the puzzle.

Meet the Railroad

Enter the newly revealed passageway on the left to meet the Railroad, who will confront you upon your entrance. If you do not have the Molecular Level main quest active, this faction quest ends here, allowing you to start Tradecraft immediately after your conversation with Desdemona.

Otherwise, proceed to the next objective, as the Molecular Level main quest adds new objectives for this faction quest.

Ask the Railroad to Examine the Courser Chip (Act 2)

Desdemona will introduce you to Tinker Tom, who will help decode the Courser Chip. Give it to him and let him examine the chip before returning to Virgil.

Report Back to Virgil (Act 2)

Head back to Virgil's Laboratory to obtain the schematics for the Signal Interceptor. From here, you'll have the option to consult with the Minutemen, the Railroad, and the Brotherhood of Steel. To complete this quest, you must return to the Railroad when given the objective.

Keep in mind that continuing forward without contacting the Railroad will immediately fail this quest when you step inside the Institute. Make sure to approach them again after receiving the schematics to prevent this from happening.

Talk to Desdemona (Act 2)

Complete the quest by concluding the conversation with Desdemona, where she asks you about your views on the Institute.
