City has moved up three places in the Complete University Guide (CUG) 2025.

City, University of London has moved up three places to 39th in the UK, securing its spot as one of the top 40 universities in the country.

The Complete University Guide is a key league table for prospective students making an informed decision about which university to choose, particularly UK students applying for undergraduate study.

City’s excellent results in the most recent National Student Survey (NSS), in which the university was ranked as one of the top 10 universities in the UK across six subject areas, contributed significantly to the improved CUG ranking.

The ranking also underpins City’s research quality, with the University placing 36th in this measure following a strong performance in Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021.

The Complete University Guide (CUG)

The CUG is a key league table for prospective students making an informed decision about which university to choose, particularly UK students applying for undergraduate study.

The main Complete University Guide league table includes 130 institutions and is based on ten measures: entry standards, student satisfaction, research quality, research intensity, academic services spend, spending on student facilities, continuation, student-staff ratio, outcomes, and graduate prospects on track (a measure of whether recent graduates agree that their current activity aligns with their future plans).

City’s rankings:

In this year's ranking, City has achieved:

36th in the UK for research quality

46th in the UK for Graduate Prospects Outcomes

46th in the UK for continuation

At subject level, key highlights include:

Communication & Media Studies ranked 11th in the UK overall and 2nd in London

Businesss and Management Studies ranked 15th in the UK

Accounting and Finance ranked 13th in the UK

The Complete University Guide’s 2025 rankings have seen St George’s, University of London rise nine places, up to 69th from 78th in 2024.
