NBA rumors: Mike Krzyzewski helping Lakers in coaching search

The Lakers are seeking a coach who will command the locker room and hold players accountable, as well as tirelessly gameplan and provide a level of structure and organization, according to those sources. Multiple sources briefed on the matter say one person who has become a respected unofficial resource for the Lakers during the process is legendary Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, whose deep knowledge for candidates, such as Redick and others, provides a lens into the culture the organization wants and the characteristics of a potential staff around the next head coach. Krzyzewski’s history with the Lakers goes back to 2004 when Dr. Jerry Buss made a strong yet unsuccessful offer to hire Coach K.

A: Talking with people in the know regarding Markkanen’s deal, the Jazz have several different ways to structure the contract that would allow them to maintain financial flexibility either this offseason or next, though they didn’t go into immense detail on what that would look like. Technically, if Markkanen were to sign a max extension, his deal would be worth 30 percent of the salary cap, with eight percent raises every season after that. If he were to sign below the max, he could structure it to benefit the Jazz where he gets 30 percent of the cap upfront and takes a decrease in salary each season up to eight percent. Where the Jazz can get creative is their ability to renegotiate Markkanen’s deal next season, and use that as an incentive for the forward to take less than the max on his extension.
Today, we got some interesting info from Ben Anderson at KSL, who shed some light on what that trade would have cost the Jazz, and it was Keyonte George. It’s on the Jazz Notes Podcast and it’s a little before the 38:00 mark. Here’s what Anderson said: I will tell you that there was some talk about Dejounte Murray to the Jazz at the trade deadline and it was going to cost the Jazz Keyonte George and the Jazz said no.
The pressure this summer is undoubtedly on Booth, though. Malone inked a long-term extension in November through the 2026-27 season. Jokic is signed through 2027-28. Meanwhile, Booth’s contract is up after the 2024-25 season, according to a new book from Nuggets reporter Mike Singer. Josh Kroenke and the rest of Nuggets ownership need to consider whether they should reward Booth with an extension despite their leadership’s lack of a shared direction.
Front office executives described Booth’s trade negotiations before the deadline as someone who went shopping but left their wallet at home on purpose. It was also a thin trade market: Would moving a rookie for Kelly Olynyk really have made sense? Odds are they couldn’t have outbid the Raptors for him anyway, or made a better offer than the Suns did for Royce O’Neale. Could trading multiple seconds for Andre Drummond really have moved the needle? Perhaps, if it bought Jokic a few minutes to catch his breath. But there wasn’t much out there.
Iverson, who is a member of the NBA’s 75 Greatest Players, recalled the moment when Michael Jordan came to the ceremony and entered the room full of NBA legends and how everybody reacted. “I just remember the reaction from everybody else, all the other 74 you know what I mean, and I remember the reaction from them, like I was looking at it like, ‘yo this man is the man for real’,” Iverson said. “I hear all the comparisons and all that you know what I mean and I have to be biased. I have to be because he made me want to be me.”
