1.Enrollment data for Chinese students from the academic years 2015/2016 to 2023/2024, broken down by level of study and gender, for each academic year individually.

2.Enrollment data for Chinese students enrolled in postgraduate taught programs for the academic year 2022/23 and 2023/24, categorized by the universities where they obtained their previous degrees.

3.Enrollment data for Chinese students enrolled in postgraduate taught programs for the academic year 2022/23 and 2023/24, categorized by their hometowns, referring to the cities where they are originally from or where they previously resided.

Additionally, it is important to clarify that by "Chinese," we are referring to individuals holding Chinese nationality, excluding those from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.

Furthermore, for each request, I would appreciate a detailed breakdown of Chinese student enrollment numbers for each academic year, categorized by various factors such as gender, hometowns, level of study, or other relevant criteria.

Regarding requests 2 and 3, in the event that the resulting tables are extensive, it is acceptable to organize the data in descending order based on enrollment numbers and present only the top 50 universities or hometowns.

I understand that it may not be possible to fulfill all these requests due to various reasons. If that is the case, please prioritize the first request.

Thank you for your response dated 24 May 2024 regarding my Freedom of Information request. I am grateful for the statistics provided on Chinese student enrollment numbers broken down by level of study and gender for the academic years 2015/2016 to 2023/2024 (Appendix 1).

I understand your decision not to provide the requested data for points 2 and 3 regarding categorization of postgraduate students by previous universities and hometowns due to the excessive work involved in manually reviewing over 31,000 student files. This would exceed the cost limit set by the Freedom of Information legislation.
