lending his voice to the character of Spider Man Noir in the animated film, Nicolas Cage will play an aging superhero in the Prime Video series.

It’s now official for Spider-Man Noir, the series that Prime Video and Sony are actively developing. Now titled Noir, we learned today that it is Nicolas Cage who will lend his features to the superhero. A choice which is not insignificant since the 60-year-old actor already lent his voice to the character in the animated film New Generation.

With this new name, this production therefore erases its link to Spider-Man and for good reason, it will not feature Peter Parker but a completely new character, whose name we do not yet know. Is this Spider-Man by another name? We’ll have to wait to find out.

Set in New York in the 1930s, Noir will follow an elderly superhero retrained as a private detective who finds himself forced to return to the forefront. The series will be played in its own universe and will have no connection with the MCU.

A universe apart

At the time of New Generation, Nicolas Cage was full of praise for his character:

“He comes from a dimension that is literally black and white. Spider-Man Noir is badass, he’s probably the most subversive Spider-Man. Think of Raymond Chandler, Paul Cain, their great detective novels! Spider-Man Noir is a private detective from 1933 who fights Nazis, so he’s a real hero.”

If he doesn’t talk about the series here, we can still imagine Noir as a dark and violent thriller, with a very particular style.

It is also Steve Lightfoot, already working on the excellent Punisher on the Marvel side, who was chosen as showrunner alongside Oren Uziel. The creative team also includes Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, the team behind Spider-Man New Generation. What a good start for this new live action series which will first be available on the MGM+ platform before arriving on Prime Video in the rest of the world.

The announcement of Nicolas Cage in the main role serves as revenge for someone who has not necessarily shone at Marvel in the past (yes, we are talking about his Ghost Rider). And for his first project for the small screen, it’s still a big coup!
