After Kamala Harris’ speech on Monday, our letter of the day is “F.”
The United States Vice President — the first woman, the first Black American and the first South Asian American to be elected to the position when she took office on Jan. 21, 2021 — spoke on the realities of breaking barriers during a fireside chat at this year’s Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) Summit, which streamed on the public affairs network CSPAN‘s streaming hub, and used some colorful language.
“We have to know that sometimes people will open the door for you and leave it open,” Harris told the crowd. “Sometimes they won’t, and then you need to kick that f—king door down.”
The VP laughed it off, adding, “Excuse my language.”
Watch the moment unfold in the below video.

“So, here’s the thing about breaking barriers. Breaking barriers does not mean you start on one side of the barrier, and you end up on the other side — there’s breaking involved. And when you break things, you get cut and you may bleed, and it is worth it every time. And so, to especially the young people here, I say to you, when you walk in those rooms being the only one that looks like you, the only one with your background, you walk in those rooms chin up, shoulders back.
“Be it a meeting room, a board room, a courtroom, a hearing room, you walk in those rooms knowing that we are all in that room with you, applauding you on and expecting certain things from you, including that you will not be silent in those rooms. And that we expect that from you because we also expect that you will internalize and know we’re there with you. And so, your voice can be strong.
“Don’t you ever let anybody tell you who you are. You tell them who you are. Don’t ever carry as a personal burden, your capacity to do whatever you dream and aspire to do based on other people’s limited ability to see who can do what… We have to know that sometimes people will open the door for you and leave it open. Sometimes they won’t, and then you need to kick that f—king door down.”
It’s impossible to underestimate her.
It’s extremely Disappointing, and Disrespectful; (regardless of how one speaks in their private life) to hear them, or hear of them using Crude, Vulgar language in Representing, “We the People of the United States of America!” 🇺🇸
“We have to know that sometimes people will open the door for you and leave it open. Sometimes they won’t, and then you need to kick that f—king door down.”
.
Damn right.
Biden, Harris, Trump, and whomever. God help us.
In a campaign that features Joe Biden, Donald Trump, and Robert Kennedy Jr, it’s simply amazing that Kamala Harris is competitive in terms of being embarrassingly dimwitted.
Two senile old men and one who had a worm eat his brain, and yet she’s still able to undercut her own mental acuity.
You got all that from one f bomb? You must think everyone is…oh wait….yeah less intelligent than you,am I right?
Yet Trump uses the word repeatedly, but you’re not bothered by it?
No, we got that from seeing her speak for the last 3+ years.
It’s not just one f-bomb.
She’s shown a consistent ability to underwhelm whenever she opens her mouth. There’s a reason why she bombed out of the 2020 primary, and it’s largely because blows everything up once she starts talking.
One of the biggest reasons why Biden’s age is such an issue is that his VP has shown zero ability in terms of reassuring the voting public that she’s ready to step in if he can’t continue.
So you think & your opinion really doesn’t matter even the Vice President has to be normal for a minute instead of acting as they all do like they have never or has never used a cuss word before. Bravo Kamala!!!!!
The only way she can get any attention in this world is to do something like that. This was clearly pre-planned and intentional.
She is meaningless. Perhaps the most meaningless VP in history. And that is a shame because it affects the reputation of all women aspiring to reach those political heights.
Thanks Kristi,how’s the dog?
Since we’re on the subject of meaningless VPs, how’s Mike Pence doing these days? He was the invisible man with zero personality during Trumps term and was hated by his own party voters. 😂
Well, VP Pence did step up on Jan. 6 and assure that the uprising at the Capital did not prevent Joe Biden from winning the election. You think that was meaningless???
Pence is an intelligent, well spoken man who understands how government works. Much more than I can say about the current VP. She can’t put two coherent sentences together.
Being both trump and Biden didn’t work out before it makes no sense to vote for either again and expect a different outcome. The smartest decision would be to vote for the person who hasn’t failed at their presidency already, our best chance at a decent president is RFK jr lol God bless America.
Brain worm for president! Now with more mercury poisoning!
Definitely sounds more promising than Trump or Biden sadly enough.
As a foreigner, I was surprised to read she is still VP. You never hear anything about her abroad, so I thought she had long retired to breed goldfish or something like that.
This is what I’ve been saying: the administration. is holding her back. She needs her “This is a big f’ing deal” moment. Is this it?
Act as though you won’t have a second term. Go all out.
I’m sorry, but I expect more decorum from our elected officials than this. This language is unacceptable, and Vice President Harris owes the people of this country an apology for her untoward comments.
She’s not wrong, but she needed to express it better.
Expecting decorum from our politicians in 2024 will only leave you disappointed. Actually, expecting anything other than self-serving behavior from them will too.
As a non-native English speaker I looked “vice” up in the Oxford Learners Dictionaries and found: “vice: evil or immoral behavior; an evil or immoral quality in someone’s character” – so as a vice president she is probably just acting according her title.
Can’t stand this woman! Worst vice president ever!!!!
What a surprise– all the misguided haters coming out of the woodwork to make their pathetic comments about Kamala’s inspirational remarks.
The old foot in the mouth syndrome
Would that be upper class or lower class?
She simply has no class.
Embarrassment to our country.
