My wife and I were thinking about getting our first boat and we want a small simple jon boat. Bass pro has a 1648 sc and it’s listed for $14K which we are fine with paying, but at the store there’s an additional $5,500 for freight (25% more the cost of the boat) and paying $20K for a $14K boat is not something we are too thrilled about. Anyone know how to get around that freight cost? We are in Alaska and don’t have many boat dealers, and we don’t know enough about boats to buy something used and risk it needing to be fixed

I'd say to just go the used route. 14k for a jon boat is a scam. I just got a used 1997 Lowe 1648 for only 2 grand and it came with all titles, trailor, 15hp outboard, 70 thrust trolling motor, 2 seats, and etc... I'd check around as much as possible before giving in to the bass pro scams. I looked at one of their tracker bass boats and I got through the whole process and then when they told me how much my monthly was and my term I almost threw up and said nvm. I would've paid almost 40k for a 17k boat... that's outrageous.
