Today in the NYTimes we saw the picture of a woman and her dead child. A person. A prince in her words.
He is there, dead in front of our eyes. Key-ly, her eyes. Beyond her hands. Beyond her tears. Dear Lady. Dear Bedside Woman.
Your image is the modern version of one that Käthe Kollwitz enshrined in her art: a mother and her dead child.
We have lived with this for as long as we have records. Our tears have washed our children clean. We have bent over them, said a goodbye that represents a loss of the next generation
we labored to bring into this world, to feed, to keep safe when all else failed.
We have failed too.
This is where we all are and have been.
This will go on for as long as this race goes on, for war is this race’s raison d’etre, even though a few men exist to speak against it. The rest are often killed in multivarious ways, like in a bed, by a mother, when a child.
It is a sorrow that will live through the ages, long after this race and its murderous ways have gone. The shape of the future is always the price we pay for every kind of past we make
here on Earth, Blue Among the Stars.
