Who is your Food Network “hear me out”?

I know this phrase usually for people who you would have special time with, but I mean more in terms of “a chef I like whom some may not like so much”.

I’ll go first. I like chef Carlos Anthony! Some said he was doing a Malarkey Jr. thing earlier with his mannerisms, but I think he has come into his own on tv. And he has shown himself to be a solid contender in TOC vs Jet, 24 in 24, Wild Card kitchen, etc.

I've discovered that I only like Carlos when he's been up working all night. 😉 Maybe I could sit and have a chat with him over breakfast after he pulls an all-nighter at one of his restaurants. 🤭

Dude yes 😅

I’m missing something what does this mean

u/Positive-Today9614 avatar

I think they're talking about 24 in 24 where Carlos has been "on shift" for 16 hours and is exhausted (and somewhat subdued).

Very Subdued lol

That could be fun!

Hear me out, I would love to have a sit down judgey-fest over food and drink with ms alex, the queen

3000%, I just love her, her energy, and her approach to food! Honestly, in another life that one could have romantic subtext for me 😂

Oh totally. I just love her view and personality. I wouldn’t tell anyone, I just want her judgment/viewpoints on just about anything. Lol

u/sgt_barnes0105 avatar

I think what I enjoy about Alex the most is she’s a genuinely good soul and good person. You can see it in how she parents her daughter and comforts people when they get down on themselves.

I really like Alex, she seems very personable. I will say a couple years ago an episode of the kitchen during Covid. The chefs were sharing their pantry and of the of the kitchen, Alex’s pantry was complete chaos. For me, I could never live that way, but it obviously is her and what I like about it is she just kept it as real as possible whereas the other hosts appeared to have really cleaned up and re-organized their pantries. So I really like that Alex just let it all out there.

Well, yeah, that's because she has 87 different types of mustard lol.

I want alex to spit in my food

LOL! No thanks, but LOL!

I would let Alex cook with me and I don’t let anyone cook with me.

I LOVE her

I own an "I'm With I.C.A.G" t-shirt.

Dude, me too!

imo and im gonna get lots of downvotes ann burell i like her

I am an Ann STAN. People are put off by really competitive natured people on tv I guess, but she has never been mean or anything like that. She just loves to compete and is great at it!

I’m glad she’s found her niche in motivating the Worst Cooks, but I always wish they could place her a few more places as well. Just a fire cook and I’m a sucker for a strong lady doing her thing.

Love Ann. She’s very creative even though I suspect her food is over salted.

HA! I like her too!

u/emirayne avatar

Ugh. I can’t vibe with you there.

I like Chris OH. I found him refreshing and funny and a good chef as well. I like Demaris and Arthy too. And I like Jeff from the Kitchen.

I’ve really liked him in the recent FN shows, he did great in Wildcard and is crushing on 24 in 24!

I like his Instagram also, and I am happy to see more chefs specializing in Asian cuisine get their flowers on the network. It’s my favorite kind of food to make

u/Ok-Scheme-1058 avatar

Love Chris Oh, he’s very charismatic, love how he started with Seoul Sausage on GFTR, his food looks delicious and he’s not bad on the eyes, either!

I dunno. Chris Oh always looks to me, like he's about to fall asleep, though he does have a very dry sense of humor. And the good chef thing, too. He's got that.

I really like Britt Resigno , she seems cool as hell, not sure if there’s people that don’t like her but I do.

I love her, she’s living an underdog dream and she’s so talented

She is so great and everytime she hears the judges she seems so humbled by all the great things they say about her.

More replies

No I’m with you. I don’t hear much hate for her but I don’t hear as much praise as some mainstays. I enjoy Britt a lot! Top contender, great food, strong mentality

I love her cooking and competitive spirit. She is a fighter. BUT... sometimes that chip on her shoulder doesn't endear me to her.

Sayng Maneet has had her time and she's gotta come down was one that I cringed at.

Yeah, that one got me too. On closer watch, Britt did have a conflict in her own personality that swung wildly between humble and self-deprecating, all the way to her huge ego.

I don't see it as ego. I see it as low self-worth needing to reduce others to feel better. She can be endearing and humble but I agree there is internal conflict there. Maybe she will get through whatever it is and just be genuine.

I can understand, I too am a fan of a humble chef even if I do like some braggadocio.

The comment was a bit cringe but in a tongue in cheek way I sort of agreed (specifically though, I wanted it to be JET’s year!)

u/ncl8986 avatar

I was heartbroken when he lost!

Same (except I was rooting for Antonia). If a chef doesn't have a comfortably sized and well earned ego, they'll get walked on all over in a professional kitchen.

I didn't detect a 'tongue-in-cheek' element in Britt's Brag, and it did make me cringe and think, 'Oh dear, dear'. I felt more that it was a slip from her 'humble' personality. But, in any competition, being able to psyche yourself up is essential.

Honestly, if I didn't have such a crush on Maneet, I'd want Britt to win TOC.

She IS cool as hell! Last year for TOC shota was throwing watch parties at his detroit pizza place in Seattle and she came to a couple, was very friendly.

u/LegitTVPotato avatar

That's cool to hear. Shota seems like a kind person on top of being a fantastic chef AND a worthy cheftestant. Wish I lived in the area. I would definitely support Shota's enterprises. I'll bet the watch parties were fun.

They were VERY fun.

I remember the first time she won on Chopped, she came across very arrogant, and then when she came back for Chopped Champions she was still a bit cocky, but better. Then I didn’t see her for a while until GGG and it was like she was a completely different personality, very humble and kind. Makes me wonder if Food Network has focus groups and coaches chefs as to how they’re coming across to the audience. Anyway I like her now. I’m always amazed how much she’s able to accomplish in such a short amount of time.

u/echos2 avatar

I feel like that's a Chopped thing in general, though. Stern judges, cocky competitors ....

I agree I remember the very first few Chopped episodes when the show really hadn’t decided how crazy it was going to be as far as mystery basket ingredients. For the first few months I absolutely could not stand GZ or Scott Conant, they were just so mean, and then after about eight or nine months they came back a kinder gentler version of their ownselves.

More replies

It's probably the life coach she got who taught her how to be appealing to viewers.

More replies

Yes!!! Britt is the new bad ass in the kitchen.

I find myself always rooting for Britt. Not sure the Angry Italian was a good nickname at all...maybe they can get a different one @GuyFieri. Everybody loves an underdog who pulls through multiple times!! Well, me anyway.

Guy needs to stop with the nicknames. He's really bad at choosing them lol.

I miss Carl 🥺 RIP

Me too! He was so fun to watch and wow could he cook!

Impossible not to miss him. It’s funny, he may be one of the only chefs I’ve never seen anything negative towards, just a gem of a person. Great personality, stellar cooking abilities, the whole package!

More replies

Me too. I miss him alot. It took a lot for him to 'grow on me' but he did, and I thoroughly enjoyed him to the point where I went back and watched all GGG episodes where he was featured. In fact, I still binge Carl from time to time.

Carl really was a great dude, and it was a fun time. R.I.P. Carl Ruiz.

u/beaglemama avatar

Agree!

I wish there was a way to easily binge Carl's appearances on GGG, both as a contestant and a judge.

u/Amy5509 avatar

I still miss him so much

I love Malarkey. I know everyone finds him annoying, but I think he’s hilarious.

I’m with you. We’d be BFFs

u/compunctionfunction avatar

Plus Carlos worked for Malarkey for years so makes sense they'd resemble each other somewhat.

More replies

Malarkey has given me 2 of my favorite FN moments: on Wildcard when he finds out he must use pomegranate & says, "but I'm wearing white!" & on GGG, he wins, chest bumps a football player & goes down like a ton of bricks 😂

u/OnMatchPoint avatar

Ahaha, I remember that! Stay away from the pro athletes. He's fantastic on GGG. I loved when he helped someone locate ingredients on the final spree by sitting in the cart and being pushed, shouting instructions.

One of my favorites was a Hunter's Birthday episode where they made him eat an entire piece of cake, frosting and all. Malarkey shouts, "Yeah, let's give him SUGAR! That's what he needs!"

I'm a Malarkey stan, but sometimes his shtick is a little too much. But I love him when he's toned down and just kinda regular crazy.

u/MKEWannabe avatar

I love him as a judge on Chopped.

I would so much like to see Brian Malarkey on Worst Cooks. He would be a great mentor and fun to watch.

OMG! Just THINKING about the unleashed crazy! I'm LOVING IT!

I would watch that. He was so good on Beachside Brawl

Regular Crazy, Decaf Crazy, and Cream and Sugar Crazy. I think Malarkey's the latter.

More replies

So do I. Yes, he's a nut. But one of my brother's besties is exactly like him....and he's 62, has not changed in the 45 years I've known him. He never stops, and no he's never drank an ounce of alcohol or taken drugs. We have people who meet him for the first time, and turn and say is he always like this? So people it's not always an act. I think he just enjoys competing. If you notice he's calm when he's judging.

Absolutely, it's just a personality thing that some people have and most people don't.

More replies

I similarly like Malarkey. He’s a damn good chef and I envy how much energy he has! Idk I just feel like he brings the party - that won’t always be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s an important thing to have

u/OnMatchPoint avatar

Absolutely! And he doesn’t take himself too seriously.

More replies

I honestly love him too!

I love Malarkey too; he has also mellowed a huge amount but is still cringeworthy from time to time. But he's Malarkey, and my taste has acquired him.

u/emirayne avatar

I like Malarkey and Carlos!

I love the Shenanigans too. He's got a very generous spirit and supports a lot of charitable work, especially when he's on GGG.

Absolutely cannot stand Malarkey. I change the channel when I see his face. His shtick is old, and to me, he seems like he’s high. Go ahead- downvote me. I don’t think I am the only one.

My "hear me out" is that I think Damaris Phillips would be a great host of a Cut Throat Kitchen reboot. Her quirkiness would give it a slightly different vibe over Alton's evilness, but I think she'd nail it.

Edited

She’s so sweet and is really just having a good time. She’s also surprisingly mischievous and her trolling would be excellent on Cutthroat or a similar show!

u/OnMatchPoint avatar

Did you ever see that GGG episode where she was a checkout person and Troy Johnson came through her line, so she did the full-on southern belle airhead act? She made comments about everything she rang up, while he twitched, rolled his eyes, and ultimately wound up with his head in his hands. It was fantastic.

I was thinking similarly, although I was thinking more of a Grudge Match reboot. I kind of hated Cutthroat Kitchen. Though I guess either could be great and I'd watch either because I think Damaris would be great at that kind of thing, the whole "grinding it in" with a wild grin on her face vibe.

u/LK_Artist avatar

I would LOVE that. FN ... DO IT!

I'm obsessed with Damaris's teeth.

Hear me out . . . Brooke Williamson. I get it, her personality could be better but seriously I think she's the Bobby Flay of our generation. I genuinely think she can out cook anyone in any competition. She'll make whatever you challenge her with taste delicious

She's amazing! I love watching her cook on Triple Threat and TOC.

u/islandmystic avatar

this is like the opposite vibe of the “hear me out” prompt lol everyone on this sub fawns over her

To be fair, when I lurk on this sub I see sort of mean comments about nearly every chef lol

So really this was just an excuse to see almost exclusively kind musings :)

u/emirayne avatar

I don’t like her ‘tude as of recent

More replies

I like Brooke!! I hear the personality sometimes but I don’t agree myself. To me, she just comes off as a regular person in the same way most people with talent a particular thing would. Plus I’m a sucker for simple, good food!

I like her too, but I don't think she's in any kind of "hear me out" category. I think most people like her for her cooking chops and her appearance ain't chopped liver either.

u/discussatron avatar

I love her ♥
