In the world of cinema, transforming into a character requires immense dedication. However, Janhvi Kapoor's journey for her upcoming film Mr. & Mrs. Mahi takes this concept to a whole new level. Stepping into the shoes of a cricketer, a sport entirely foreign to her, Kapoor embarked on a two-year odyssey of relentless training, transforming from a complete novice to a believable on-screen athlete.

Kapoor, who readily admits to being "the most unathletic, non-sporty person on the planet," had her work cut out for her. Under the watchful eye of coach Abhishek Nayar, she endured a rigorous training program that pushed her physical and mental limits. Dislocated shoulders and torn ligaments became unwelcome companions, yet Kapoor persevered through the pain. Her training wasn't limited to the cricket pitch; gruelling workouts and sports drills became her daily routine, all designed to build the athleticism and stamina required for the role.

The commitment extended beyond the gym. Kapoor participated in a specialized training camp in Baroda, where she rubbed shoulders with international cricketers. This immersive experience allowed her to closely observe their body language, movements, and techniques, essentially preparing for a cinematic version of the IPL.

Reflecting on her experience, Kapoor acknowledges the immense challenges she faced. "Nothing could have prepared me for this role," she admits. "I knew nothing about the sport." But her passion for the project shone through. "There have only been a handful of scripts that have made me feel like if I'm not part of this I'll die," she shared, "and I felt that way about this film."

This dedication didn't go unnoticed. Director Sharan Sharma is effusive in his praise, stating, "I genuinely don't know how she kind of pushed through the pain barrier and gave her five thousand percent through the training, through the shoot." He further emphasizes the level of commitment Kapoor brought to the role, highlighting that "most actors would not be able to commit that much intensity, passion, time to really push to get every detail correctly."

Mr. & Mrs. Mahi will be released in cinemas on May 31, 2024.
