A Free Warcraft Game Released Last Week And It’s Got Zero Buzz

Did you know that there was a free Warcraft spinoff game released last week? Seriously, it’s called Warcraft Rumble, and it’s quickly become one of the most popular games on both iOS and Android. So why is nobody talking about it?

Warcraft Rumble is a free-to-play strategy-ish game that’s kind of like a mix of tower defense and MOBA gameplay. You build up resources, spend those resources to place minis, and then use those minis to capture objectives like towers and eventually defeat the enemy boss.

It looks like a lot of fun, honestly, if you’re into those kinds of games, and players seem to have been flocking to it in droves. On the Google Play Store it has over 1 million downloads, and on the iOS App Store it’s currently the #1 game in the strategy category.

It was released globally last weekend during Blizzcon, after going through a soft launch in a few smaller regions. Unlike other hit games and overnight sensations, though, there’s basically no buzz around it, at least from what we’ve seen.

Search traffic exists, but it’s not really blowing up in the way you’d expect. A search on Twitter shows that people are talking about it a bit, but it’s not generating hundreds of tweets a minute like some other games, just a tweet every minute or two. It’s honestly all a bit weird.

That said, there could be a number of reasons why it seems like nobody’s talking about it. Maybe the communities for this game are coalescing elsewhere, like Discord or Telegram. You’d think that would spill over onto other platforms, but that’s not always a guarantee. Maybe players are just too busy actually playing it to post about it — unlikely, but not an impossibility.

Or maybe there’s just not that much to talk about. Maybe players are just content playing it, and don’t feel the need to broadcast it all over the internet. Maybe the tutorials are just so good that nobody really needs to search much about it. It’s anybody’s guess, really.

Either way, if the trailer above looks good to you, you can download the game now on the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store.
