TVLINE | Did you always intend for the Lenny Broussard cover-up to blow up in Angie’s face?
HELDENS | Kath Lingenfelter, who co-wrote this episode with me, had the idea at the very end of last season. She said it, and it was one of those things where the room went silent. But the more we thought about it, it just seemed so great because you really understand where everyone is coming from. You understand that Angie really thought that she was making the best of a horrible situation when she took the blame for Crystal killing Lenny, and trying to prevent that girl’s life from being ruined. This season, she developed a nice relationship with Crystal, and to understand that she is the architect of, whether or not she meant [for this to happen], this girl is turning into a monster, just seemed like really great drama that puts Angie and Will on opposite sides.
TVLINE | Does Will’s decision to place Angie under arrest pretty much seal their fate as a couple? Is this relationship done for good?
HELDENS | I mean, I’ve never arrested a romantic partner before, but it does seem pretty hard to come back from. [Laughs]
That vision sequence was terrific! Man, this is such a wonderful show, and I’m already eager for January. I will say I’d love for them to reach out to Lana Parilla and see if she’d be down to be Sara Linton. I feel like her and Ramon would have chemistry for sure. But we’ll save that for down the line lol. Congrats on avoiding the sophomore slump, Will Trent!
I like the way they made these characters more likeable then in the books so that being said Sara Linton is not needed. I hated her character as well as her ex husband his partner and the dumb nephew.
YES. Her character is insufferable.
Agree! Never liked her character.
This, although Jeffery was fine until they started messing with him to prop Sara
This was pretty much exactly what I expected except for the arrest. I didn’t think they’d actually go that far with it. I’m curious to see how it plays out. I’m also wondering how, if at all, this affects Ormewood’s custody battle since he was also involved in the coverup. Will Angie protect him or will somebody piece it together just from his presence at the scene? I didn’t know Will had a different love interest in the books because I haven’t read them, but I really hope somehow Angie is his endgame for the show. I was enjoying watching them grow individually and how that brought them back together.
I hated this episode. I wanted to see Will and Angie end up together right now, 15 minutes later, I’m stunned and heartbroken. It’s going to be a long wait until season 3.
You clearly have been watching a different show and don’t understand the character of Will Trent at all.
Excellent the way Will looked at his 2 choices. I knew he would choose the law, totally true to the character of Trent . Now figure out a way for Will and Ange to get back together!! They can never love another.
Whoa …I forgot that the actor who played young Will was in Promised Land, another ABC series, where he played the younger version of the actor currently playing Will’s Uncle Antonio…. Great casting choices!
I am gutted…that alternate flash forward! While it wasn’t a surprise that Crystal was the killer, the repercussions it has for Will and Angie floored me. Will Trent is hands down the best show on network TV. Cannot wait for season 3!
Gutted is a good way to put it; heartbreaking is what came to mind for me. You just knew it was not going to happen given it wasn’t a series finale, and what was to come. Though I thought maybe Erika could be leaving the show after that and as a fan of both her and Angie, I am glad to see that may not be the case.

On a less serious note, it felt weird to read Ormewood refered to as Michael in the above interview. I am not sure I knew that was his name because we almost always hear Ormewood or occasional Dad :p
I like the whole cast, but I got hooked on the show because of Betty plus Angie and her relationship with Will. Messed up, dysfunctional and unusual? Yes, but also electric with off-the-chart chemistry that made both characters better.
The last few episodes seemed so fake. Having watched soaps back in the 80’s and early 90’s I was pretty sure what was coming. Unless it was very bad writing, I knew the writers were about to screw the relationship up. That tone deaf
scene on the park bench said it all. Sigh…
IIt so disappointing I doubt I’ll be back in the fall.
I love this show, but the last couple of episodes were not particularly good. They felt rushed and underdeveloped at the same time. I know they only had a limited amount of episodes to deal with because of the strikes but ending the season this way was definitely a big disappointment for me. I’ll still be happy when it comes back in January, but I hope they figure out a better way to get out of the situation than they did to put themselves into it.
All the clues were there and I. Did. Not. See. This. Coming.
Wow.
What a bummer, I’ve have never read the books, so to me Will and Angie are soulmates based on what I’ve seen on tv. The actors are great together. Not going to enjoy watching them with other romantic interests.
Will Trent is hands down the best show on TV. The chemistry of the cast is so awesome. I hope that Ramon Rodriguez gets an Emmy nomination.
He should be nominated just based on the scene where he realized he loaded the gun that killed his foster mom. That was one of the most gut-wrenching performances I’ve seen in a long time. He’s a great actor, but that scene was just phenomenal.
Will Trent followed La La Land to show what could have happened. Nice.
“Do we want to bring in the endgame now? Or is it interesting to find somebody [else for now]?”, but like how many season you think you will get? I love the show, but you probably get cancelled before you get the chance to bring Sara Linton in.
It is going fine in the ratings and some of the others on ABC got at least 7, and notice. They probably have a couple more seasons before they need to make an introduction unless planning a spinoff sooner. Maybe as a Rookie replacement when that ends.
While the finale is poignant & dramatic, it appears it was necessary & to make this show a must see. Love Will Trent & it is in my top 3 shows to watch presently. There isn’t a character that isnt fascinating & worth investing time in. Hope this series has many more seasons. This show us so good that am in process of purchasing the 12 books of the series. Great job ABC, keep up good work.
Great 2nd season! Love this show!! Heartbreaking ending though:(
I love this show. Love the character of Will. Love his complex relationships. However, this is a BS cop out (pardon the pun). How many times have we seen this in tv series? Get them together, break them up. Throw them in impossible situation relationship wise. Break up. The long drawn out rekindling. Then they are together and… BOOM. It kills the show. How about this: Put them together and let them be happy. Focus on the cases and the usual life issues. How they incorporate Nico into their new family dynamic. How work plays out. I don’t know. How having a normal pregnancy and child plays out. But they remain together and happy. But no. The writers take the the weak way out. Follow the path of least resistance and a patterned trail left by the likes of other series such as Castles. Get them together, break them up. Again and again and again and again (ad infinitum. Again, love the show. Love the lead actors. They are fantastic. But the writing is going to murder this show. And it won’t take a detective to spot the killers.
Love Angie and will trent
Angie/Erika is amazing this is not the end for her.
I’m pretty confident at this point that the writers of Will Trent were the only team in network TV that took that shortened season serious this year. It was a perfect finale and perfect ending to tide us over until next year.
I really like this show…My favorite is “Betty”….Seriously she makes Will think before he does something stupid…She also didn’t like Angie for a long time…Dogs have a sense about people…It seems most comments want them together…I’m not of that opinion…However it is a great cast and the last episode did not disappoint…
I felt like the end was a tad confusing. But appreciate this opportunity to clear some things
up.
I loved the alternative life and part of me was rooting for that as a decision. But Will has a solid moral compass and I understood his choice. I hope Season 3 finds redemption for both Will and Angie. I think that they are meant to stay in each other’s lives in a deep way.
Love this show but the writers are going to have a tough time with tv viewers only and those who have read the books. People on both sides have already decided which iteration they want and so many are going to be disappointed and upset. I wish the writers good luck.
After the finale, it seems Angie is headed to jail and there’s no way to make her and Will a believable couple ever again, we’ve made the decision to walk away from the show. Sounds kinda harsh, but wow, the finale really sucked in every way possible. Any ” redemption” for either main character will ring false. On to something new.
We missed the last five minutes of the finale in the Milwaukee WI area due to approaching storms, and I’m LIVID that they cut into the show with just five minutes left, because the storms were not yet imminent! There would have been plenty of time for storm warnings AFTER the final five minutes!!
They weren’t imminent for you, but they might have been imminent for others in the viewing area?
