A Gazette contributing writer has been nominated for a Los Angeles Press Club award.

Holly Gleason is up for recognition in the category of Entertainment Feature for her profile of Mary Chapin Carpenter, written for the Gazette last August in the run-up to Beach Road Weekend.

Ms. Gleason is a former Vineyarder who has been part of the Gazette team for over a decade, writing numerous pieces about musicians performing on the Island, from Lucinda Williams to Jakob Dylan, Patty Griffin, Son Volt, Steve Earle and Richard Thompson, to name a few.

In January she profiled singer Elijah Berlow, who grew up on the Vineyard but now calls Chicago home. Previously she has profiled local musicians Kate Taylor and Willy Mason.

Ms. Gleason has long contributed to Rolling Stone Magazine, Oxford American, No Depression, among other publications and is the editor and a contributor Woman Walk the Line: How Woman in Country Music Changed Our Lives.

The Los Angeles Press Club awards take place at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, June 23.

Last year, Ms. Gleason picked up two awards at the annual event, for music criticism and as the press club's choice of Entertainment Journalist of the Year.
