Here’s a first look at ‘Rick and Morty: The Anime’

Adult Swim has unveiled a preview for Rick and Morty: The Anime, which is set to premiere later this year on Adult Swim and MAX.

In the new 1-minute preview, we see a crab-shaped spaceship, which is later identified as a hostile craft, shot down on an alien planet. Morty is credited for the feat and he later becomes worshipped as the planet’s saviour.

The upcoming anime series will span 10 episodes led by Tower of God director Takashi Sano with Adult Swim’s Jason DeMarco and Sola Entertainment’s Joseph Chou serving as producers, and animation production by Telecom Animation Film. The opening theme song, “Love is Entropy” is performed by OC from Code of Zero and written by OtoneZ.

Below is an official synopsis of the Rick and Morty series

“Rick is a mentally-unbalanced but scientifically gifted old man who has recently reconnected with his family. He spends most of his time involving his young grandson Morty in dangerous, outlandish adventures throughout space and alternate universes. Compounded with Morty’s already unstable family life, these events cause Morty much distress at home and school.”

The anime will be an original work referencing themes from the main series, which is scheduled to continue for two more seasons. Stay tuned for an official release date to be unveiled shortly.
